Position Specific Description

The Grid Control Systems Department is looking for a Engineer II Tech Applications to join their team in Miami, FL.
 
Under general supervision, this individual contributor within the Transmission and Substation (TS) and Distribution Grid Control Systems (GCS) organization is responsible for the planning, development, application architecture, implementation, maintenance, monitoring and operations of grid control systems and applications. Systems included are Energy Management System (EMS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Residential/Commercial/Industrial Demand Side Management (DSM) systems and other emerging technologies in support of the Power Delivery Business Unit. An intermediate grasp of electrical system principles, computer systems, programming, network architecture and relational database technologies is desired.
 
This position will be required to be on functional area callout rotation to provide 24 by 7 computer support. 
 
Desired Qualifications:
•    Bachelor's degree in electrical power systems or computer engineering 
•    Working knowledge of real-time EMS functionality 
•    Working knowledge and able to use programming languages and scripting, such as C++, Java, Oracle, Perl, etc.
•    Working knowledge of applicable policies, rules, regulations, and codes in the electrical utility field and cyber security, especially on NERC CIP Standards
 
Other Expectations
•    Must be available for on-call support to provide solutions to emergent operational issues
•    Must be available to report for occasional night and weekend duty during storms and system emergencies
•    Interpret design and operating policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
•    Must be willing to take Personnel Risk Assessment periodically 

Job Overview

The position is responsible for the planning, development, application architecture, engineering, implementation, and operations of grid monitoring and control systems and corresponding applications.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops systems including modifying, commissioning, and/or decommissioning the associated applications, programs, and software
  • Supports department emerging technologies strategic opportunities and solutions
  • Coordinates or individually contributes to assigned work plans
  • Executes systems planning, systems development, operational, and maintenance activities of the systems and applications
  • Performs work tasks to ensure reliable performance (availability and integrity) or project delivery of systems and applications
  • Supports and executes the requirements of Florida Reliability Coordinating Council (FRCC) Reliability Coordinator Operations
  • Ensures compliance with the North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) Reliability Standards
  • Executes Operational Excellence goals and initiatives
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s - Engineering
  • Experience: 2+ years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • Certified Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certified
  • Six Sigma Black Belt Certified
  • Six Sigma Master Black Belt
