Position Specific Description
The Associate Wind Technician is an entry-level role within the NextEra Energy team responsible for assisting with the operation and maintenance activities of wind turbines at North Sky River near Tehachapi, CA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist senior technicians and engineers in performing routine inspection, maintenance, and repair tasks on wind turbines, including the mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Collaborate with the team to identify and troubleshoot turbine issues and malfunctions to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- Participate in scheduled preventive maintenance activities, such as oil changes, filter replacements, and bolt torque checks.
- Conduct basic tests and measurements using various tools and equipment to assess turbine components and system performance.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to create a safe working environment and minimize risks associated with turbine operations and maintenance.
- Document all maintenance activities, including work performed, parts used, and observations made, for record-keeping and future reference.
- Assist in maintaining inventory levels and acquiring necessary equipment, tools, and spare parts.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts, suggesting ideas to enhance operational efficiency and optimize turbine performance.
- Stay updated with industry best practices, technical advancements, and safety regulations related to wind turbine maintenance.
Job Overview
Employees in this job perform regular preventative maintenance and repair on wind turbines. The successful candidate's primary function will be changing GBX oil on wind turbines.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Under direct supervision:
- Performs regular preventative maintenance and repair on wind turbine power generation equipment
- Completes electrical, electronic, and mechanical troubleshooting
- Maintains all company supplied equipment, facilities, and tooling
- Applies basic understanding of the technical and process functions
- Manages own training schedules and meets the training requirements of the position
- Ability to meet attendance requirements
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High School Grad / GED
- Experience: 0+ years
- Valid Driver’s License (NON CDL)
- Ability to climb a wind turbine up to 300 feet
- Post-Offer Functional Capacity Evaluation

- Associate's Degree
The estimated base pay for this position is $38,400.00 to $57,600.00 per year. Starting pay will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, experience, qualifications, job-related and industry knowledge and skills and education/training.
