Position Specific Description

The position advertised is for a Sr. Production Technician B (Power Plant Operator - Field).  This position sits within the Power Generation Division which is responsible for all of NextEra Energy's non-nuclear generation operations, exceeding 40,000 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity.  Wyman Station is located on Cousins Island in Yarmouth, Maine, and Cape Station is located on Portland Harbor in South Portland, Maine. Combined, the units total 750 megawatts. In addition to the responsibilities below, this individual will work a 12-hour rotating shift.  This person will work as a Power Plant Operator within the Bargaining Unit at the plant.  The position will require that the candidate join the Bargaining Unit per the collective bargaining agreement.

 

SPECIFIC JOB CONDITIONS:

  1. Performs the duties of a Sr. Production Technician B Shift. (Power Plant Field Operator). 
  2. Follows all the safe work practices and procedures.
  3. Perform maintenance (M/E/I&C)activities to the degree the individual is qualified and in a safe manner.
  4. Executes Clearance Permits as required under the direction of the Shift Plant Leader.
  5. Proficient in the areas of power plant operations & associated auxiliary equipment used in fossil generating stations or similar facilities.
  6. Proficient in the ability to interpret power generation systems, procedures, and drawings with ability to operate existing & new systems or similar facilities.
  7. Monitors performance to identify operating characteristics, take necessary actions to prevent or limit failure, optimize efficiency, identify root cause and implement countermeasures.
  8. Understands and follows procedures for compliance with all environmental regulations.
  9. Assist the Shift Plant Leader in other assigned duties and work closely with the Production Assurance Staff, in the installation, maintenance, operation and troubleshooting of Fossil power generating equipment.

 

REQUIREMENTS OF APPLICANT:

     1)   Must have a working knowledge of the Company's operating standards, policies, directives, safety and environmental regulations and instructions pertaining to the assignment.

     2)  Must demonstrate skill level to attain the skill set of those employees working in the same classification.

Sr. Production Technician B Qualifications:

  1. Operations ((5 station qualified -pump rooms, burner decks, outside areas (water treatment ponds)) and one Maintenance skill set M/E/I and one additional skill set

OR

Operations ((5 station qualified -pump rooms, burner decks, outside areas (water treatment ponds)) and one PT skill M/E/I and one additional skill set.

3)  Must be able to respond to off-hour callouts, work a reasonable amount of overtime, and be able to work on a 12-hr rotating shift.

4) Good communications skills, oral/written & basic computer skills.

5) Must have a valid Maine driver's license and a safe driving record.

6) Must possess a State of Maine High Pressure Boiler Operators License or higher or have the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire date.

 

Preferred (not required) qualifications: (External Candidates)

State of Maine Stationary Engineers License

Experience operating conventional power plants - oil fired boilers and steam turbines

Intermediate level or higher skill set in Power Plant Mechanical, Electrical, or Instrumentation & Control crafts. Preference will be given to E/I&C candidates.

Preference for State of Maine Master Electrician’s License.

Experience with Boiler Water Chemistry & Demineralizer operations and maintenance.

Willingness to advance to a Shift Production Specialist Role (Control Room Operator)

Job Overview

  • Must be proficient in calibrating, maintaining and troubleshooting the following instrumentation: Transmitters, Switches of all types, Valves, Analyzers (CEMS Air Emissions equipment and Water Chemistry).
  • Experience working with various Distributed Control System's (DCS), Westinghouse Ovation Preferred.
  • Must be able to read and understand technical manuals, P&ID's, electrical schematics and control logic (SAMA) diagrams.
  • Follows all safe work practices and procedures.
  • Perform maintenance activities to the degree the individual is qualified and in a safe manner.
  • Must be proficient in the ability to interpret power generation systems, procedures and drawings.
  • Monitors performance to identify operating characteristics, take necessary actions to prevent or limit failure, optimize efficiency, identify root cause and implement countermeasures.
  • Understands and follows procedures for compliance with all environmental regulations.
  • Must be able to perform daily CEMS calibrations, routine CEMS maintenance, Linearity's, RATA testing and troubleshooting of CEMS analyzers and sampling systems.
  • Must be able to respond to off-hour callouts and work a reasonable amount of overtime
  • Good communications skills, oral/written & basic computer skills.
  • Scheduled to work 5 days a week, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Required Qualification

  • Electrical/Instrumentation and Controls apprenticeship, vocational certificate, military training or equivalent required.
  • Proficient in skills and abilities relating to: calibrating, maintaining and troubleshooting instrumentation and control equipment and systems.
  • Valid Driver's Licence (NON CDL)
