Position Specific Description

Our Smart Grid Team is looking for a Sr. Drone Pilot - FPLAir One to join their team in West Palm Beach, FL.

 

  • The candidate must have civilian/military aeronautical experience and proficiency requirements set forth in 14 CFR 61.129 for Commercial Pilot License requirements single-engine airplane with the ability to attain their Part 61 Commercial Pilots license within 6 months of onboarding.
  • The candidate have and maintain a Class 2 FAA Medical Certificate.
  • Be familiar with the Federal Aviation Regulations/Aeronautical Information Manual (FAR/AIM).
  • Have experience with a Safety Management System and familiar with principles or Aviation Safety and Operational Risk Management.
  • Must be able to be qualified with a Class A Commercial Driver’s License to transport and handle UAS equipment safely using a truck and trailer setup.
  • Must be a Terso-C Qualified Pilot within 6 months of onboarding.  The training will require 4-8 weeks of Teros-C training that may require up to 8 weeks of travel to complete the training.

 Desired Skills:

 

  • Experience with advanced UAS operations, including beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS);
  • Knowledge or certification in Crew Resource Management (CRM) preferred;
  • Instructor, training or development experience with UAS operations preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Aviation, or a related field.

 

Job Overview

Florida Power and Light (FPL) is seeking an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Operator for the FPLAir One aircraft. This position will require the day-to-day operation of the 1800lb aircraft in a closed traffic pattern and Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) with non-participating aircraft. Remote operations will include but are not limited to, preflight, checking weather along the intended route, logbook compliance, and ensuring airworthiness and safe operation. The pilot must be familiar with UAS operations in the National Airspace System and be able to work as a part of a team.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • The UAS Pilot is responsible for safety during all phases of flight
  • Assuring the aircraft meets airworthiness specifications before operation
  • Can analyze weather and hazards pertaining to the intended flight path
  • Use ADM and CRM to make the best decisions ensuring safety and success.
  • Ensure safe transport of aircraft using truck and trailer
  • Create and update documentation as it pertains to the flight operation
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Equivalent Experience
  • Experience: 5+ years
  • Commercial Driver's License
  • FAA Part 107 Certificate
  • FAA Private Pilot Certificate part 61 or 141
  • FAA Medical certificate
