Position Specific Description

Our Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) Technical Services Department is looking for a Senior Nuclear Engineer to join their team in our Corporate Procurement Engineering and Dedication (CPED) facility in West Palm Beach, FL.

 

This position performs advanced engineering tasks that require extensive analysis of alternatives and include responsibilities for technical decisions associated with important or complex projects to support the business plan. Performs engineering root cause analysis, develop associated cost-effective countermeasures, and provide expert advice for system malfunctions affecting the ability of business unit assets to meet their objectives. Assures designs meet federal/state/local/regulatory codes and standards, and operability, reliability, and cost targets. Directs and oversees major projects from inception though construction and final closeout documentation.

 

This position primarily utilizes design information to create special testing, inspection and acceptance criteria for parts and materials that will be utilized across our enterprise.  The engineering evaluations performed will be used by our centralized test facility to provide reasonable assurance that these parts and materials will perform their required functions.

 

This position performs engineering/analytical tasks and develops reliable, cost effective procurement engineering packages that establish proper technical and quality requirements. The engineer will select critical characteristic attributes for testing that once verified will provide reasonable assurance the item will perform its required function upon installation. The engineer will be responsible for knowing and maintaining design and licensing basis, utilizing the correct design information from changes, procedures, tests and engineering documents in procurement engineering evaluations. The engineer will utilize proper codes and standards in their procurement evaluations, understand and maintain design margin and exercise sound engineering judgment and involve appropriate level of analysis and management review when necessary. The engineer will be accountable for the cost, timeliness, and quality of engineering products in support of material demands.

 

This position also requires a demonstration of proficiency or ability to learn automated purchasing and materials management computer systems (FPL / NEE System - Ventyx Asset Suite (originally INDUS Passport)).  Prior attendance at the EPRI Nuclear Utility Procurement Training is a plus.  Direct experience in the mechanical discipline is preferred. Cross-discipline experience (Seismic, Civil/ Structural, Equipment Qualification, Projects Engineering) is a plus.

 

This position performs procurement engineering responsibilities discussed below. 
 
•    Provides consistency in application and standardization for procurement engineering evaluations/reviews including commercial grade dedications, material analysis, and reverse engineering (RE) of components.
•    Establishes procurement methodology including developing Commercial Grade Dedication criteria.
•    Establishes reverse engineering requirements and provides a plan or methodology to collect measurements, conduct inspections and analysis for a variety of materials and components.
•    Establishes procurement engineering documents which result in accurate technical and quality information supporting proper procurement and cost savings where appropriate.
•    Establishes material safety classifications and quality levels by researching design and regulatory documents.    
•    Establishes procurement engineering documents which result in accurate technical and quality information supporting proper procurement and cost savings where appropriate.
•    Maintains plant configuration utilizing or initiating appropriate change document (item equivalency or design change).
•    Performs responsibilities with supervisor oversight.
•    Support the corrective action program.

Job Overview

This job is responsible for performing engineering activities that support projects and operations across the nuclear business. Employees in this role apply broad nuclear plant engineering experience and principles to make decisions and recommendations. Individuals work with independence and have wide latitude to exercise judgment over technical solution development.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's – Engineering
  • Experience: 7+ years
  • Nuclear Experience: 4+ years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's – Engineering
  • Certified Professional Engineer (PE)
