Position Specific Description

Our FPL Energy Services Business Unit is looking for a Principal Sales Engineer to join their team in West Palm Beach, FL.  This position will support our sales team in generating new business and acting as a subject matter expert in all product/service offerings.   You will function as the primary technical resource to review and respond to all pre-sales design requirements from customers.  You will also support the definition and development of new products based on feedback from the Sales team and customers.
The selected candidate for this role must demonstrate success as a top sales performer consistently exceeding quota.  You must have the ability to prospect, qualify and close multiple levels.  

 

Education/Certifications
•    Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science or Bachelor of Science in Engineering is preferred;
•    At least 5-years’ experience in Technology, Network Design and Engineering, Product Management, and/or Sales Engineering;
•    Experience with computer software programs such as Salesforce and Microsoft Office Products including Excel & Visio & Mapping software;
•    High degree of knowledge of Fiber Optic characteristics;
•    Working knowledge of Carrier Ethernet Technologies;
•    Knowledge of IP Routing protocols.     

Job Overview

This role supports sales teams in generating new business and ensuring growth of existing accounts. Leaders in this job perform functions such as product positioning, evaluation and definition of application requirements, and gaining the confidence of customer prospects. This individual will prepare and deliver customer-facing sales presentations and will act as a subject matter expert in all product and service offerings.  This position will estimate build costs and design requirements to meet customer specifications.                                                  
 

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Uses technical knowledge of product offerings to support and build sales          
  • Interfaces with customers to determine technical requirements and expectations          
  • Prepares network topologies, network drawings, and technical specifications, estimates build costs, and assists Sales with pricing                                        
  • Works with appropriate internal organizations (Engineering, Product, Planning and Network Operations) to develop and validate network designs
  • Works with Sales Executives in the preparation, delivery and review of sales and grant proposals, Requests for Proposal (RFPs), or Requests for Quote (RFQ) responses
  • Supports Sales plan through pre and post-sales technical consulting activities, including gaining an understanding of our customers' businesses and the analysis of our customers' communications networks                                      
  • Designs data network solutions for customer applications, with alternatives based on customer-specific technical, environmental, and financial parameters                            
  • Communicates customer feedback to Product Management for future product developments 
  • Validates all service orders before being submitted for implementation and participates in kickoff meetings to ensure smooth service implementation
  • Researches and presents reports showing potential customers the cost-benefit of purchasing company products or services    
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience: 7+ years
  • Valid Driver's License (NON CDL)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree
  • Experience: 10+ years
  • Certified Professional Engineer (PE)
