Position Specific Description

The Accounting Manager’s key responsibilities will include oversight of day to day accounting operations, analyzing and reviewing internal financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and regulatory accounting requirements, project management oversight, and support of FPL Energy Services (FPLES) initiatives. This includes the performance of independent research and analytical activities as specified by senior management. The ideal candidate will have strong familiarity with GAAP and SEC regulations, a willingness to learn regulatory accounting requirements, and an ability to build productive working relationships across the organization in a positive and collaborative manner.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of FPL Energy Services accounting team
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of monthly and quarterly financial results
  • Oversight and development of FPLES accounting processes and internal controls
  • Ensure the overall accounting accuracy of FPLES business lines and special projects across multiple reporting entities
  • Support commercial and residential business lines by providing accurate and timely accounting conclusions in support of current and new product initiatives
  • Act as FPLES liaison for accounting implementations

 

Miscellaneous Responsibilities:

  • Conduct reporting and/or accounting research projects as assigned
  • Maintains good understanding of, and applies, GAAP, SEC Regulations, Sarbanes-Oxley, and related company policies, practices and procedures.
  • Presentation of accounting areas/issues to concisely and clearly articulate to senior management
  • Identifying and recommending changes to processes to enhance the accuracy of accounting data and/or efficiency of the department.
  • Project management skills inclusive of setting timelines/project plan, establishing assignments/priorities, and delivering according to project plan.
  • Responsible for SOX compliance, including design and effectiveness of the assigned SOX processes.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

•   Prepares financial reports that are in compliance with GAAP and FERC, in a timely manner, to accurately reflect the financial position of the Company
•   Provides accounting oversight to businesses and departments within the Company and ensures proper controls are in place for accurate financial reporting
•   Ensures financial data integrity through the implementation and maintenance of a strong control environment
•   Keeps abreast of, and applies GAAP, SEC regulations, and relevant company policies, practices, and procedures
•   Manages professional staff, and effectively communicates and executes performance management
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

•  Bachelor's Degree
•  Experience: 8+ years
•  Supervisor/Management Experience: 2+ years

Preferred Qualifications

•  Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
•  Master's - Business Administration
