Position Specific Description

Are you competent and competitive?  Do you want to work on significant transmission line projects around the country?  At NextEra Energy Resources (NEER), as a Principal Engineer. you will have the opportunity to work on significant transmission line projects, including EHV and HVDC, both overhead and underground together with a team of subject matter experts.  Projects will include both renewable generation tie lines and transmission network lines. 

 

The Principal Engineer works in the Engineering & Construction (E&C) Group and is responsible for transmission line projects from conception (Early Stage) through construction and commissioning.  You will work with the Early-Stage Project Manager and the Solar or Wind Project Engineering Manger to define and influence the project requirements and scope.  You will secure engineering consulting, surveying, and geotechnical resources from a list of approved suppliers by developing a scope of work, securing bids and awarding work through NEER’s Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) Group.  

 

The Principal Engineer is generally responsible for representing E&C’s internal and external interests on assigned projects, including presentations and briefings on current progress, issues, and risk mitigation in meetings with various levels of management.  The ideal candidate has a strong knowledge of transmission design, excellent communication and project management skills, a bias for action, proven analytical and problem-solving skills, and an ability to provide value engineering and ensure design quality.  The position requires technical competence in managing transmission line project design.  A good understanding of industry tools and standards used for design and management of transmission projects is required.  These include the NESC, PLSCADD, Primavera schedules as well as ASCE and IEEE standards and guides.

 

PE and/or PMP Certification is highly desirable.

  • Works with other departments within the organization to establish customer requirements and project costs
  • Ability to meet attendance and storm duty requirements
  • Ability to work extended hours
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
