Position Specific Description
Palms Insurance is NextEra Energy, Inc.’s wholly-owned insurance subsidiary that provides coverage for both affiliated and non-affiliated risks. The Palms finance team is an integral part of developing strategy for managing risk and executing strategy for growth. We are seeking an Accounting Manager to join our dynamic team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within the Property and Casualty Insurance sector. The Accounting Manager, specializing in Statutory and Investment Accounting, is responsible for overseeing the financial reporting, compliance, and accounting functions related to statutory requirements and the company's investment portfolios. This role ensures accurate and timely financial reporting, adherence to relevant regulations, and effective management of investment accounting activities.
Job Responsibilities
• Prepares financial reports that are in compliance with GAAP and SAP, in a timely manner, to accurately reflect the financial position of the Company
• Prepare and review statutory financial statements and reports in accordance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards. Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
• Ensure compliance with statutory accounting principles (SAP) and regulatory requirements. Monitor changes in accounting regulations and implement necessary adjustments to financial reporting processes.
• Lead the annual external audit • Oversee the Investment accounting process including valuation, income recognition, and reconciliations. • Maintain current knowledge and expertise related to statutory accounting principles and regulatory reporting requirement
• Collaborate with other departments to streamline processes, improve financial performance, and meet business objectives
• Strong knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) and regulatory requirements
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels within the organization
• SAP or other large ERP experience
• Advanced MS Excel (Pivot tables, VLOOKUPS, SUMIF)
• Ensures financial data integrity through the implementation and maintenance of a strong control environment
• Manages professional staff, and effectively communicates and executes performance management
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned

• Prepares financial reports that are in compliance with GAAP and FERC, in a timely manner, to accurately reflect the financial position of the Company
• Provides accounting oversight to businesses and departments within the Company and ensures proper controls are in place for accurate financial reporting
• Ensures financial data integrity through the implementation and maintenance of a strong control environment
• Keeps abreast of, and applies GAAP, SEC regulations, and relevant company policies, practices, and procedures
• Manages professional staff, and effectively communicates and executes performance management
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree
• Experience: 8+ years
• Supervisor/Management Experience: 2+ years
Preferred Qualifications
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
• Master's Degree
