Position Specific Description

The Major Component Planning Manager leads a team of planners responsible for sourcing, logistics, and inventory management of wind turbine components across NextEra Energy's entire wind fleet. This role serves as a critical bridge between operations, procurement, and field sites, ensuring component availability while optimizing inventory investment and supply chain efficiency. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in materials planning, procurement, or supply chain management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. Able tp travel up to 50% to supplier locations, field sites, and company facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of material planners specializing in major wind turbine components (generators, gearboxes, blades, nacelles, towers, and other critical systems)
  • Set clear performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching to enhance team capabilities in strategic inventory management and vendor collaboration
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence, and cross-functional partnership
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and identify growth opportunities for team members

Strategic Planning & Inventory Management

  • Develop and execute strategic inventory plans for major components across the wind fleet, balancing availability with cost optimization
  • Establish and monitor optimal stocking levels, reorder points, and safety stock parameters based on fleet reliability data, lead times, and operational priorities
  • Drive serialization and tracking protocols to ensure accurate component visibility and traceability throughout the supply chain
  • Analyze consumption patterns, failure trends, and fleet expansion plans to proactively adjust inventory strategies

Procurement & Vendor Collaboration

  • Partner closely with procurement teams to source major components from qualified suppliers, ensuring competitive pricing and favorable terms
  • Build and maintain strong vendor relationships, establishing clear performance expectations and accountability metrics
  • Support tariff mitigation strategies and alternative sourcing initiatives to manage cost exposure
  • Negotiate logistics arrangements and coordinate with suppliers on core exchange programs, lead time commitments, and quality requirements

Logistics & Operations Coordination

  • Oversee shipping coordination to field sites, optimizing freight costs through strategic consolidation and carrier selection
  • Manage inbound and outbound logistics for component rebuilds, core returns, and emergency shipments
  • Collaborate with site teams to understand component needs, coordinate delivery timing, and minimize production disruptions
  • Support facility transitions and operational changes, adjusting logistics workflows as needed

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Serve as primary liaison between planning, operations, engineering, and site leadership on major component availability and constraints
  • Provide visibility into component lead times, supply risks, and inventory positions to support strategic decision-making
  • Support major initiatives including facility expansions, rebuild program optimization, and third-party sales activities
  • Contribute to business planning processes with data-driven insights on inventory investment and cost avoidance opportunities

Job Overview

Leaders in this position have overall management accountability for the team of maintenance specialists, technicians, engineers, and contractors involved in major maintenance activities. This position manages internal and external resources to Deliver Certainty in all disciplines of major maintenance activities to achieve objectives for: safety, environmental, quality, schedule, and cost compliance.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Focuses on streamlining activities through the use of lean maintenance techniques and standardized processes and procedures
  • Assumes overall accountability for internal employee development and performance management
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Grad / GED
  • Bachelor's or Equivalent Experience
  • Experience: 8+ years
