Position Specific Description

NextEra Analytics is the optimization and analytics team for the world’s largest renewable energy generator. We are currently seeking a Senior Financial Analyst for the Energy Management Strategy & Policy Team. This team supports and prioritizes energy management projects and analytics products through expertise in energy policy and electricity market design. The Senior Financial Analyst will conduct assessments of trade and business strategies that impact the profitability and implementation of software projects. These projects will revolve around electricity market participation, plant dispatch strategies, and software solutions for monetizing energy storage, hybrid aggregations, and new power market assets. This team has proven success and is core to the NextEra 360 Energy Optimization Platform. In this role, you will interact with asset managers, energy project developers, settlement accountants, and market optimization engineers to develop qualitative and quantitative assessments that inform and prioritize energy management projects and supporting analytical tools. You will leverage your expertise in financial modeling to produce impact assessments and pro forma statements for new projects while proactively researching new products. Data science skills and analytical programming are a significant asset to this effort. The ideal candidate has expertise in electricity markets, energy project financing and/or software management. Strong presentation skills and a passion to innovate in our changing electricity market landscape are a plus.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • A track record of producing financial reports in written and spoken presentation
  • Prior experience in power markets, energy project valuation, trade strategy development, and/or software implementation
  • Strong background in financial modeling, pro forma modeling, and data analytics (Python, Julia, R)
  • Broad experience with energy systems, specifically energy storage development and/or energy management software (i.e., DERMS)
  • Advanced degree (MS, MBA, JD or PhD) in related field

Job Overview

This position is responsible for working with subject matter experts and project teams to provide financial expertise on new and existing energy management opportunities. This person will work closely with software teams, project developers, traders, and market analysts to prioritize and quantify market opportunities related to energy management services. Employees in this role are responsible for tracking and distilling financial reports and simulations related to front-of-the-meter and behind-the-meter power markets and projects, including battery energy storage, virtual power plants, and new energy services. This role performs qualitative and quantitative analysis and collaborates with others in the organization to produce novel methods of assessing market impacts.

Job Overview

Employees in this role perform financial due diligence and prepare investment valuations of acquisitions and greenfield projects in the energy industry. Individuals are expected to work with limited supervision to identify and analyze the impact of relevant investment, environmental and/or business issues facing NextEra Energy on the company’s financial structure, profitability, financial integrity and competitive position.  The successful candidate applies advanced abilities to comprehend, analyze, frame and resolve complex analytical issues and distill them into simple to understand analysis for management decision making, communicating the key investment benefits and risks to senior management, and providing expertise and support to other NextEra departments requiring financial consulting services or financial training.

Job Duties & Responsibilities


•   Performs financial pro forma modeling and analysis work products
•   Coordinates engagement with Development leaders and Subject Matter Experts (SME)
•   Coordinates the gathering of SME assumptions
•   Reviews SME assumptions and resolves open issues
•   Prepares management presentations
•   Presents to Risk Committee/CFO reviews, and senior management vetting meetings (based on ability)
•   Assists in developing valuation standards and policies
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

•  Bachelor's - Accounting / Finance
•  Experience: 4+ years

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant)
  • CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst)
  • Master’s - Accounting / Finance
