Position Specific Description

NextEra Analytics is the optimization and analytics team for the world’s largest renewable energy generator. We are currently seeking a Market Quantitative Engineer for our Market Products team. This team designs, develops and benchmarks effective electricity market trading and plant dispatch strategies for utility-scale and C&I customers. We are an algorithmic product team that implements automated software solutions for monetizing energy storage, hybrid aggregations, and other market participation models through mastery of market rules and regulations, forecasting of price and other market conditions, and optimizing bidding and dispatch behavior. This team has proven success and is core to the NextEra 360 Energy Optimization Platform. In this role, you will be interacting with asset managers, schedulers, facility operators, and risk managers to develop price and power availability forecast models. You will leverage your expertise in operations research and electricity market fundamentals to optimize trade support products and assess quality through performance benchmarking. Solid quantitative and object-oriented programming expertise is strongly sought to build new forecasting capabilities. Strong soft skills and passion to innovate in our changing electricity market landscape is a plus.

Job Overview

This position is responsible for designing, developing, and benchmarking effective electricity market trading and plant dispatch strategies for utility-scale and Commercial-and-Industrial customers. Employees in this role leverage knowledge and experience in mathematical programming, predictive analytics, power systems engineering, and electricity spot market design along with the capability to software engineer the solution to leverage software platform technologies including cloud computing, distributed computing, numerical solver methods, and data storage infrastructures.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops algorithmic product solutions for physical or virtual assets (or portfolio of assets) 
  • Implements production grade mathematical code with performance benchmarking and unit testing to verify and validate outcomes
  • Determines key performance indicators for algorithmic products and contributes to monitoring and iterative product improvement
  • Prepares code documentation, technical reports, quantitative analyses, and presentation material for internal and external use
  • Supports collaborations in cross-functional workstreams
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Equivalent Experience
  • Experience: 2+ years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree
