Position Specific Description

The Project Director, Late-Stage Development will have the primary responsibility of overseeing and driving progress on new electric transmission projects within the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) region, leading projects through the planning, permitting, and construction stages until operation begins. This position will also be responsible for leading and managing resource allocation, schedules, and technical accuracy, ensuring the project is completed in the most cost-effective, efficient, and competitive manner within the budget and schedule proposed to CAISO. As Project Director, the successful candidate will spearhead all aspects of the project life cycle, including early issue identification and resolution, financial feasibility and progress analysis, internal and external reporting, and close coordination with engineering/design, legal, marketing/communications, project controls, and other critical components of project execution. Experience with financial due diligence, scheduling, budgeting, and successfully managing large transmission projects to completion will be highly beneficial to succeed in this role.
 
Key Responsibilities:
•    Managing all aspects of day-to-day project planning and execution to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of regulatory and procedural requirements.
•    Leading and coordinating key functions such as financial feasibility analyses, engineering/design, federal and state permitting and regulatory compliance, legal review, and financial negotiations.
•    Building strategic relationships and executing major contracts to support the Company's transmission business growth initiatives.
•    Ensuring project compliance with applicable technical and regulatory requirements.
•    Serving as the primary stakeholder lead during late-stage development, engaging with relevant external entities such as local, state, and federal government agencies and other key stakeholder groups.
•    Delivering comprehensive reports on project progress, risk mitigation efforts, and metrics through monthly metric meetings and regular updates.
•    Ensuring the successful startup and transition of assets to Operations.
•    Performing other job-related duties, as assigned.

 

Higbly Preferred Qualifications:
•    More than three (3) years’ experience leading transmission development projects in California.
•    Deep understanding of California Public Utilities Commission permitting processes and requirements.

 

This is a strategic hire requiring someone with exceptional leadership skills, deep understanding of California transmission permitting processes, and a proven ability to lead projects through planning and execution while ensuring financial success.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages all aspects of the day to day transaction process to ensure timely completion as well as a cost effective and competitive results
  • Leads and coordinates key functions such as financial feasibility analyses, engineering/design, project legal review, permitting activities and financial negotiations
  • Coordinates due diligence activities with other internal groups to ensure proper analysis and structuring of assigned projects
  • Acts as liaison between internal and external specialists regarding procurement, contracting, permitting and interconnection
  • Constructs contractual arrangements for project development
  • Negotiates agreements with consultants and subcontractors
  • Ensures compliance with applicable technical and regulatory requirements
  • Fosters external relationships with customers, third parties and members of the community
  • Identifies opportunities and negotiates power sales contracts
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

The base pay for this position is $136,800.00 to $205,200.00 per year. This range is estimated for this role. Actual pay may be different.
