Position Specific Description

As Senior Project Manager on the NEET team, you will lead origination and advancement of new and enhanced transmission projects in the West. This includes identifying and shaping transmission opportunities in the CAISO and WECC regions; collaborating with early-stage and late-stage development teams across NEET to mature these opportunities; crafting compelling project cases and engaging customers, regulators, and other stakeholders to champion transmission solutions (including travel to customer locations); and participating in regulatory and stakeholder processes at CAISO, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), and the California Energy Commission (CEC) to advocate for transmission solutions that strengthen the grid and benefit local communities.

Ideal candidates for this business development / origination role will demonstrate:

  • Experience in electric transmission (ideally in the West) and/or business development at an infrastructure developer – e.g. regulated utility, ISO/RTO, or developer experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong project management skillset
  • Analytical skills and commercial judgment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Word as requirements; experience with Salesforce as a plus

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the early stages of the project lifecycle, including identifying needs and solutions, conducting financial feasibility analyses, building and delivering the business case to customers, and engaging with regulatory bodies and other stakeholders to originate new transmission opportunities for NextEra Energy Transmission (NEET).
  • Support due diligence activities for potential partnerships and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in the CAISO and WECC regions.
  • Collaborate with NextEra Energy Transmission (NEET) partners and the development team to characterize, vet, and advance transmission projects.
  • Engage in relevant regulatory and stakeholder processes at CAISO, CPUC, and the CEC.

Location: Remote. Preferably based in California (ideally in San Francisco Bay Area) or elsewhere in the West with proximity to a major travel hub.

Travel: On an as-needed basis, up to 25%.

Job Overview

Employees in this role develop and execute plans for new and enhanced generation projects. This job is responsible for resource allocation, schedules, cost and technical adequacy, ensuring the project or transaction is completed in the most cost-effective and competitive manner. This position manages all aspects of the business deal and ensures the project is completed on time and within budgetary constraints.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages all aspects of the day-to-day transaction process to ensure timely completion as well as a cost-effective and competitive result
  • Leads and coordinates key functions such as financial feasibility analyses, engineering/design, project legal review, permitting activities and financial negotiations
  • Responsible for managing multiple and complex projects 
  • Coordinates due diligence activities with other internal groups to ensure proper analysis and structuring of assigned projects
  • Acts as liaison between internal and external specialists regarding procurement, contracting, permitting and interconnection
  • Constructs contractual arrangements for project development
  • Negotiates agreements with consultants and subcontractors
  • Ensures compliance with applicable technical and regulatory requirements
  • Fosters external relationships with customers, third parties and members of the community
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Grad/GED
  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience

The estimated base pay for this position is $132,000.00 to $198,000.00 per year. Starting pay will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, experience, qualifications, job-related and industry knowledge and skills and education/training.
