Position Specific Description

Join NextEra Energy in making history as we restart the Duane Arnold Energy Center. As Nuclear Safety & Health Manager, you'll establish the industrial safety foundation for this exciting endeavor, building robust industrial safety and health programs while working with the onsite team. This position will partner with leadership regarding plant restoration, workforce expansion, and operational readiness while ensuring OSHA compliance and fostering a world-class safety culture. Job Overview

Employees in this role develop, coordinate, implement, oversee, monitor and evaluate the industrial safety and health programs for a nuclear site and serve as the site contact for compliance issues related to federal and state OSHA regulations.

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Observes and enforces safety rules and practices, encourages safe work behaviors, and promptly correct conditions which may lead to accidents
  • Establishes and enforces industrial safety policies
  • Implements industrial safety programs to reduce and prevent industrial safety events which could cause personnel injury or plant equipment damage
  • Oversees industrial hygiene activities to promote compliance with regulations regarding exposure to hazardous substances and maintain a healthy work environment
  • Maintains required OSHA records
  • Assists in instruction of site personnel in industrial safety and perform job observations to ensure safety and quality standards are met
  • Supervises or lead employees, supports and monitors employee daily activities, training, performance, recognition and discipline and make routine supervisory decisions
  • Informs management of issues and organizes, plans, controls and executes goals and objectives
  • Maintains program compliance with plant, fleet and industry requirements
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience: 10+ years
  • Supervisor/Management Experience: 3+ years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nuclear Experience: 7+ years
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIM)
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • OSHA 30 Hour, General Industry Course
  • Senior Reactor Operator Certification

Special Requirements

Nuclear Specific Requirements:

  • Industrial safety experience: 10+ years
  • Experience in one of the following disciplines: Operations, Maintenance, or Work Management/Outage
  • Experience with OSHA requirements
  • Experience conducting basic industrial hygiene analyses
  • Experience developing and presenting safety instruction to site personnel
  • Experience with accident investigation and report writing
  • Experience with computer applications used for accident analysis and trending

 

Nuclear Specific Preferences:

  • Bachelor's in Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Fire Protection or Environmental Health and Safety
