Position Specific Description
NextEra Energy is currently seeking a Senior Engineer to support our fleet of Battery Energy Storage Projects. The candidate will be responsible for analysis of complex engineering projects, making recommendations and decisions with significant impact for the company. The candidate will be recognized as subject matter expert in a range of electrical engineering applications, with a focus on power electronics and lithium battery systems. Position will support all technical aspects of battery storage operation, maintenance, and the development of new projects, including, but not limited to: Inverter operation/maintenance, Battery Managements systems, SCADA, grid interconnection, site start-up and transitioning to operation. This role is also responsible for providing technical guidance, support, and mentoring to other team members as well as collaborating with cross-functional teams to support business objectives.
Overview:
Employees in this position are responsible for providing engineering support for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) that are in operation.
Responsibilities:
- Completes assignments of moderate to significant technical complexity with limited oversight
- Provides site and remote technical support to operations and business unit personnel on inverter and battery system performance or availability issues.
- Perform root cause analysis of systemic failures and collaborate with original equipment manufacturers to develop and apply countermeasures.
- Occasional travel to renewable generation sites occasionally to perform onsite troubleshooting, repair, and upgrades.
- Establishes, modifies, and maintains procedures/guidelines supporting operation and maintenance of BESS facilities.
- Displays strong communication and interpersonal skills in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s – Electrical Engineering
- Master’s – Electrical Engineering
- Six-Sigma Green Belt
- Formal training in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, or technical problem solving.
- Experience in manufacture of Energy Storage or Power Conversion Equipment
- Experience with construction / integration of BESS facilities
- Operations experience with solar PV and/or BESS
