Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy Inc. and Florida Power and Light (FPL) are seeking a Senior Financial Analyst at one of the company’s main facilities, James L. Robo Campus, located in Palm Beach Gardens. In this role you will report to the FPL Business Service Manager and serve as a subject matter expert across multiple areas of business and financial operations, supporting strategic decision-making that impacts the financial and commercial performance of the Power Generation business unit. This role drives budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and internal controls while influencing senior leadership on critical and often complex issues. You can expect to have an understanding of the Uniform System of Accounts as set forth in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and be able to apply and ensure compliance with the rules and regulations set for by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission as well as the Florida Public Service Commission and assist the manager in ensuring compliance with GAAP and the regulatory agencies addressed above.

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly reports including the Monthly Operation Performance Review (MOPR), perform advanced financial analysis, cost management, and variance analysis to support business unit performance
  • Lead and support budgeting, forecasting, benchmarking, and reporting processes
  • Conduct ad hoc analysis to inform strategic and operational decisions
  • Support and enhance internal controls, ensuring compliance with financial and regulatory standards
  • Develop and maintain financial models, dashboards, and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI)
  • Coordinate and support system implementations and enhancements (e.g., SAP, BPC, Maximo)
  • Create and manage capital work orders and maintain master data integrity
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to drive process improvements and special projects (e.g., Six Sigma initiatives)
  • Provide financial insights to support business planning, cost optimization, and commercial objectives
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership, auditors, and regulatory bodies
  • Lead or participate in audits (internal, external, SOX) and ensure proper documentation and compliance
  • Influence and support key business decisions, including cost management strategies and corrective actions

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Management, or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in financial analysis, accounting, operations, or business performance
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Experience with internal controls and compliance frameworks (e.g., SOX)
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a matrix organization and collaborate across teams
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CPA, CMA, CFA, PMP, Six Sigma Green/Black Belt)
  • Experience in business unit financial or operational support
  • Experience with Power BI, SQL Server, or advanced analytics tools
  • Knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS, and/or FERC accounting standards
  • Experience in internal/external audit or financial compliance roles
  • Familiarity with utility, energy, or regulated industry environments
  • Strong project management and process improvement experience
  • Experience developing dashboards, automation tools, or data visualization solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior leadership and drive strategic initiatives

Job Overview

Employees in this role support senior management decision making via financial modeling and analysis, including but not limited to, revenue requirements and customer bill impacts, discounted cash flow analysis, and financial statement modeling. This position identifies and conducts complex analysis of financial impacts to issues and/or decisions facing the company and proposes strategies to maximize financial performance of company.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Identifies, analyzes, and communicates to management the impact on the Company's financial structure, profitability, and competitive position utilizing relevant analytical methods and/or department forecasting models
  • Provides financial analysis support for various projects, calculating revenue requirements, net present value, customer bill impact, etc.
  • Provides expertise, support, and financial training for the company departments requiring these services
  • Performs financial analyses as required by management or regulatory bodies
  • Makes recommendations on financing decisions and executes long and/or short term financings
  • Prepares PowerPoint presentations to be provided to Senior and Executive Management 
  • Acts as a mentor to lower level employees
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Grad / GED
  • Bachelor’s or Equivalent Experience
  • Experience: 4+ years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s - Accounting / Finance
  • Master’s - Accounting / Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
