Overview:
NextEra Energy, a leader in clean energy, is looking for a highly experienced and visionary Senior Director of Strategy to join our Power Generation division. In this critical role, you will lead the development and execution of strategic initiatives specifically for our diverse power generation assets, ensuring alignment with NextEra's long-term growth objectives and our commitment to a sustainable energy future
The Senior Director of Strategy for Power Generation at NextEra Energy will spearhead strategic initiatives that revolutionize our operations through innovative technologies and practices. This critical role drives field-first initiatives, AI strategies, change management projects, and strategic endeavors—including Data Integration, essential for unlocking PGD Transformation objectives. Expected to lead a team of directors and managers, the senior director manages cross-functional projects within and across business units.
The position demands a distinct combination of analytical rigor, business acumen, a deep comprehension of technology and IT systems, and the capacity to influence strategic decisions at the executive level.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Guide strategy formulation and execution, ensuring synergy with the Power Generation Division transformation goals. Develop and implement key initiatives that enhance collaboration with operations teams.
- Innovation & AI Strategy: Direct the AI-driven strategy execution, leveraging advanced technologies to enhance operational efficiencies and maintain market leadership.
- Field-First Initiatives: Oversee strategic development prioritizing field operations, ensuring operational excellence and competitive performance.
- Replication Strategies: Facilitate replication of successful strategies across projects to promote dynamic growth and operational improvements.
- Change Management: Initiate and supervise strategic change efforts, ensuring resilience and adaptability throughout the division.
- Data Integration Leadership: Steer comprehensive data integration projects to optimize data flow and unlock transformational objectives.
- Market & Competitive Intelligence: Continuously monitor the external landscape of the power generation sector, including competitor strategies and industry trends.
- Process Enhancement: Enhance and optimize power generation processes, frameworks, and methodologies to improving efficiency, effectiveness, and consistency in strategic planning
- Cross-Functional Oversight: Manage strategic cross-functional projects, integrating goals and structures across business units to strengthen interdependencies.
- Talent Development & Mentorship: Provide thought leadership, guidance, and mentorship to members of the strategy team, fostering a culture of analytical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and enforce high standards, cultivating a high-performance organizational culture.
- Lead and mentor directors and managers in strategic project execution to achieve business objectives.
- Pioneer initiatives with significant impact and visibility, demanding strong strategic foresight and leadership skills.
- Communicate strategic insights and project progress to stakeholders at various organizational levels.
- Ensure continuous organizational improvement through effective strategy validation and issue resolution.
- Apply advanced problem-solving and decision-making expertise, prioritizing critical needs and objectives.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An advanced degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Math, or a related field, such as an MBA or a Master’s in Strategic Management or Energy Technology.
- Extensive experience in the energy sector, particularly in power generation, with a strong track record of leading multi-year projects.
- Proven leadership experience managing teams at director-level or above, including development and execution of cross-functional projects.
- Strong analytical capabilities along with a deep understanding of technology integration and IT systems within the energy sector.
- Demonstrated ability to influence strategic decision-making processes at the executive level, aligning strategies with organizational goals.
- Experience in leading change management efforts, driving cultural transformation, and fostering interdependent collaboration between business units and operations.
- Exceptional communication, capable of articulating complex ideas to senior leadership and other stakeholders.
- A forward-thinking approach in innovation, AI strategy, and a pulse on market and competitive intelligence.
Job Overview
This role directs, develops and implements strategies and work plans supporting business unit goals and objectives for reliability, equipment performance, benchmarking, bulk electric and distribution system expansion, system and network operations, planning, and NERC and environmental compliance. This position may be responsible for providing these same services for regulated and unregulated entities.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides services in engineering, design and standards, technical services, reliability and performance diagnostics
- Develops strategies around renewable technologies and their valuation in the power grid
- Provides services to other subsidiaries
- Develops and monitors business plans
- Provides engineering management and oversight
- Conducts technical reviews
- Manages, develops and implements projects, procedures and processes
- Ensures compliance with NERC standards as well as company and regulatory requirements
- Develops strategic business plans
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Experience: 12+ years in engineering, design and standards, technical services, operations, reliability or related area
- Leadership Experience: 5+ years
- Certified Professional Engineer (PE)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's - Engineering
- Six Sigma Green Belt Certified
