Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy is currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced engineer to join our Park Automation, Control, and SCADA team supporting our Wind fleet. This role will apply diversified knowledge of power generation, industrial automation, networking, SCADA/DCS, and programming to execute a broad variety of assignments supporting safe, reliable, and optimized renewable wind power generation. These assignments can include performing engineering, troubleshooting, and operation/maintenance-based tasks for PLC’s, industrial networks, measurement and collection devices, wind turbine generator controllers as well as supporting networked applications and devices. 

 

Job Overview:

Employees in this position are responsible for maintaining overall SCADA availability and performance, industrial automation and control of wind sites, equipment health and performance, and operational data flow for NextEra renewable generation assets. The successful candidate will have a sense of accountability and urgency required to make informed decisions regarding safety, regulatory compliance, system integrity, and engineering complexity, under limited supervision.

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage multiple automation projects simultaneously, from conception through continuous operations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including, but not limited to, engineering, construction, supply chain, operations, finance, and IT
  • Design and develop advanced automation solutions for wind farm operations including selection of appropriate control system hardware and software as well as maintaining detailed documentation
  • Provide ongoing support and maintenance for automated systems
  • Continuously monitor and analyze the performance of automation systems to identify areas for improvement, implementing upgrades and modifications to enhance system efficiency and reliability
  • Ensure all automation solutions comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, cybersecurity standards, and corporate policies
  • Promote a strong safety culture and adhere to all safety guidelines and practices
  • Completes assignments given in broad terms concerning general objectives and limitations
  • Displays strong communication and interpersonal skills in a fast-paced operational environment, with some aspects of research and development
  • Completes assignments given in broad terms concerning general objectives and limitations
  • Performs system testing and documentation for control system changes and upgrades
  • Provides technical leadership in the functional specification, design and implementation of control solutions
  • Travels to wind sites occasionally for onsite troubleshooting support and project execution
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred
  • Experience: 7+ years
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with power generation equipment, power fundamentals, and control schemes
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, SCADA systems, and HMI development
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as TCP/IP, Modbus, DNP3, and IEC 61850
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Valid state Driver’s license and ability to acquire passport

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certified Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Six Sigma Certified – Green Belt
  • Six Sigma Certified – Black Belt or Master Black Belt
  • Master’s Degree – Engineering
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
