Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy is seeking an experienced individual to join their Power Generation Division (PGD) team as a PGD Technical Services Manager leading the Reliability and Performance Engineering team supporting our fossil generating fleet. NextEra Energy, Inc. is one of the largest and highest-performing power generation companies in the nation and their PGD team is responsible for a diverse generation portfolio of over 55 GW.

 

The Fossil Reliability and Performance Engineering team leverages data analytics to achieve best-in-class system performance and equipment reliability while ensuring the lowest total cost of ownership. The selected candidate will lead a dynamic, multifaceted team that is responsible for the analysis of NextEra Energy’s fossil fleet reliability data, condition-based maintenance, prevention through prediction and long-term component lifecycle management. This position requires the qualified candidate to drive quality principles and initiatives for the fossil fleet through cross functional collaborative efforts. 

 

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, and Skills

  • Utilize predictive tools to analyze equipment failure rates to optimize equipment maintenance strategies, drive improvement of reliability processes and replication of engineering countermeasures and identify just-in-time maintenance frequencies.
  • Oversee a variety of concurrent, high complexity projects under limited guidance.
  • Identifies issues and challenges, measures and validates results, and implements solutions across various stakeholder groups and internal customers.
  • Creates and communicates presentation materials for Leadership report outs and team working level sessions with various levels of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conducts internal and external research and stays aware of new developments, innovative advancements, and emerging technologies pertaining to fossil generation.
  • Provides coaching, mentorship, and direction to cross-functional teammates.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in planning, organizing, and guiding Reliability Engineering efforts and activities of high importance to the business.
  • Ability to use rigorous logic and root cause methodologies to collaboratively solve difficult problems with effective solutions. Can see hidden problems and looks beyond the obvious and does not stop at the first answers.
  • Ability to learn quickly when facing new problems. Embraces and drives organizational change and analyzes both successes and failures for clues to improvement. Enjoys the challenge of unfamiliar tasks and can independently develop effective solutions to problems.
  • Ability to quickly find common ground and solve problems for the good of all. Can solve problems with peers in an efficient timely manner. Is seen as a team player and easily gains the trust and support of peers.
  • Champions PGD case and management of change processes across the organization. Ensures that appropriate technical documentation is maintained in our Enterprise Asset Management Applications and identifies performance indicators to drive process rigor.

 

The Ideal Candidate Would Have The Following:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering
  • Experience: 5+ years related experience in operations and maintenance, maintenance planning, project management, or engineering 
  • Knowledge of industry recognized reliability principles, modeling methods, and predictive analytics achieved through AI/ML
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with the public, coworkers, and management
  • Analytical and creative skills to find solutions to complex interpersonal, technical, and administrative problems
  • Quality Certification – Green Belt Certification
  • Knowledge of budget development/analysis, and operational cost factors
  • Knowledge of database query building in SQL, Maximo, and industry database tools

 

Ability to travel to sites throughout the U.S. as needed, <10%
