Position Specific Description
NextEra Energy’s Power Generation Division is currently seeking a technical services manager responsible for leading and managing a team of software developers and analysts responsible for the automation and optimization of work management tasks in service of wind, solar, and energy storage technicians and engineers. Within Power Generation Division, the Renewables Center for Work Excellence manages our scheduling tools and analytics platform, working closely with Operations and Engineering.
The ideal candidate for the CWE Technical Services Manager role should be strategic and people-focused, emphasizing product vision, cross-functional communication, service to operations teams, and thoughtful prioritization of work. The ideal candidate excels at shaping direction, nurturing team growth, and ensuring our internal partners receive high-quality tools and support. Technical understanding is valued, but the role is focused on leadership and guiding and empowering technical contributors to deliver value for our operations teams. This candidate will collaborate with others to make decisions on code design, cloud architecture, tech stacks, and processes.
Areas of responsibility will include:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of technical subject matter experts, fostering collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
- Provide strategic direction for products and tools used across the Renewables CWE, in collaboration with other team members.
- Act as a service-driven partner to field and operations teams, gathering requirements, defining problem statements, and ensuring strong user experience outcomes.
- Facilitate clear communication between technical teams, operations stakeholders, and corporate IT groups.
- Prioritize and manage work across multiple projects using Jira or similar project management tools; maintain organization, visibility, and workflow clarity.
- Improve and maintain documentation, ensuring processes, decisions, and system knowledge are accessible and up to date
- Evaluate business processes and value streams, identifying opportunities for simplification, optimization, and automation.
- Support integrations with other business groups and enterprise systems.
- Represent the team in meetings with non-technical stakeholders, translating requirements into action plans and clarifying dependencies and risks.
- < 10% travel – meeting with field technicians and plant managers to evaluate project success and gather requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, MIS, or similar fields
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience with project management suites (such as Jira)
- Problem-solving and strategic thinking skills
- Microsoft Office Tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.)
- Experience leading/managing technical specialists
- 5-7+ years in software development or 3-5+ years in leadership or management roles
Desired qualifications:
- Master’s degree in business administration
- Experience with procedural code development (Python, Java, C#, JavaScript)
- Experience with databases and SQL (Postgres, Microsoft SQL Server, Redshift, etc.)
- Knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD, and version control systems
- Background in software development or power generation
- Six Sigma Green Belt
