Position Specific Description
The Technical Services Leader provides direct leadership and technical guidance to a team technicians responsible for remote restoration, advanced troubleshooting, and performance optimization of wind turbines, solar inverters, and energy storage systems as an integral part of the NextEra Energy Renewable Operations Control Center. This role combines frontline supervision with technical development and continuous improvement to maximize asset availability and team effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
• Directly supervise, coach, and develop technical team members working rotating 24-hour shift schedules
• Conduct performance evaluations, provide ongoing coaching, and create individual development plans and
core training programs
• Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning
• Manage staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure consistent 24/7 coverage
• Lead team meetings and knowledge-sharing sessions to build collective expertise
Technical Operations & Troubleshooting
• Oversee remote restoration activities and advanced troubleshooting for renewable asset faults
• Serve as escalation point for complex technical issues requiring expert intervention
• Ensure consistent application of troubleshooting methodologies and safety protocols
• Monitor team response times and restoration effectiveness across all asset types
• Collaborate with field operations and engineering teams to resolve recurring or systemic issues
Process & Knowledge Management
• Develop and maintain comprehensive troubleshooting guides and standard operating procedures
• Build and continuously improve fault code databases with documented response protocols
• Create rule-based reset automation strategies to improve response efficiency
• Document lessons learned and integrate improvements into operational practices
Performance Analytics & Continuous Improvement
• Track and analyze key performance metrics including downtime reduction, intervention effectiveness, and work order quality
• Generate reports on team performance, fault trends, and improvement opportunities
• Identify patterns in fault data to drive proactive maintenance and engineering improvements
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, and central work management to optimize processes and workflows
• Implement data-driven initiatives to enhance team productivity and asset availability
Cross-Functional Coordination
• Partner with engineering teams to provide field intelligence and support technical solutions
• Coordinate with site operations to improve data systems, program transparency, remote intervention success rates, and revenues losses due to asset availability
• Interface with central work management and site operations to optimize work order processes and ensure quality through structured feedback
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders on performance trends, challenges, and successes
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology, or related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 3+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent technical certification
• Experience with SCADA systems, remote monitoring platforms, and automation technologies
• Background in controls, electrical, or instrumentation engineering
• Previous experience in renewable energy operations or control center environment
• Demonstrated success in process improvement and team development initiatives
• Familiarity with NERC compliance and cyber-security requirements
Working Conditions
• Office/control center environment with occasional field visits
• May require non-standard hours to support team operations and critical events
• Travel up to 10-15% for training, site visits, and meetings
