Position Specific Description

The PGD Principal Technical Services Specialist serves as a senior technical leader and subject matter expert responsible for the reliability, performance, cybersecurity, compliance, and continuous improvement of the Renewable Operations Control Center (ROCC) control, SCADA, and support systems supporting Wind, Solar, Battery Storage, and associated substation assets.

 

This role applies extensive and diversified knowledge of industrial controls, communications networks, SCADA systems, cybersecurity, and operational technologies to support safe, reliable, and compliant fleet operations. The position is responsible for leading highly complex technical initiatives, developing innovative solutions to operational challenges, influencing strategic decisions, and guiding cross-functional teams in the implementation of systems, processes, and technologies critical to ROCC operations.

 

As a Principal-level technical leader, the individual is expected to direct work across multiple stakeholders, navigate organizational complexity, drive innovation, build strategic partnerships, and make recommendations with significant business, operational, compliance, and financial impact.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical expert supporting ROCC Operations for control system, SCADA, communications, and operational technology issues impacting fleet reliability and performance.
  • Provide technical leadership for the specification, design, testing, implementation, and lifecycle management of control center applications, SCADA platforms, operational technologies, and support systems.
  • Lead commissioning, site integration, control validation, and operational readiness testing for new Wind, Solar, Battery Storage, and substation assets entering commercial operations.
  • Direct and coordinate complex troubleshooting efforts involving SCADA, controls, communications, historians, and field equipment to identify root causes and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Develop and champion innovative solutions that improve operational reliability, efficiency, automation, cybersecurity, compliance, and overall fleet performance.
  • Establish strategic partnerships with Operations, Engineering, Compliance, Cybersecurity, Network Services, E&C, Asset Management, and third-party vendors to achieve business objectives.
  • Manage highly complex system changes, upgrades, patches, and technology deployments, ensuring appropriate testing, validation, documentation, and risk mitigation.
  • Lead vendor and contractor engagements, technical evaluations, and project execution activities associated with ROCC technologies and infrastructure.
  • Support and enhance Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) compliance programs, cybersecurity initiatives, system hardening efforts, and audit readiness activities.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve operational standards, procedures, technical documentation, and governance processes supporting ROCC technologies.
  • Assess emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve operational effectiveness while balancing reliability, cybersecurity, compliance, and financial considerations.
  • Provide technical leadership during major operational events, system outages, incident investigations, and emergency response activities.
  • Analyze technical and operational performance metrics to identify opportunities for process optimization, risk reduction, cost savings, and improved service delivery.
  • Mentor engineers, technical specialists, operators, and cross-functional partners while fostering technical excellence and knowledge sharing across the organization.
  • Provide occasional off-hours support for critical events, system outages, major implementations, and operational emergencies.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of industrial control systems, SCADA architectures, and operational technologies supporting renewable generation assets.
  • Expertise in Wind, Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and associated substation controls.
  • Proficiency with industrial networking protocols including OPC, Modbus, DNP3, IEC-61850, and related communications technologies.
  • Experience with Wonderware, AVEVA, OSI PI, CEWIS, and enterprise historian platforms.
  • Strong understanding of Ethernet, serial communications, network architecture, and cybersecurity principles.
  • Experience configuring, programming, and troubleshooting PLC systems; Modicon PLC experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of NERC, CIP, and operational compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical programs, influence stakeholders, and manage large-scale operational initiatives.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, project leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while operating effectively in a dynamic 24x7 operational environment.
