Position Specific Description

The Database Admin (DBA) team is seeking a summer college intern to assist with DBA activities associated with the day to day operational activities of availability, backup, performance and lifecycle management. The intern will gain exposure to a variety of database technologies with Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL and possibly others. Exposure to on-premise solutions with AIX / Linux as well as a variety of AWS solutions with the same database technologies using AWSs RDS solution.

 

As a Database Administrator Intern, you will:

• Get hands-on database experience

Review the performance management of SQL tuning activities across systems.

Assist with automation activities across the on-premise as well as AWS solutions.

• Reviews description of changes to database design to understand how changes affect how data is stored in terms of location, amount of space, and access method.

• Select and enter codes of utility program to monitor database performance such as distribution of records and amount of available memory.

• Exhibit critical thinking and problem solving skills.

• Demonstrate strong collaboration skills.

Job Overview

To be considered for an internship, you must be actively enrolled at a college or university as a full-time student seeking a bachelor’s degree or higher. You must also have a current cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher (on a 0.00 to 4.00 scale).

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists department with assigned projects
  • Completes challenging projects and assignments
  • Presents final project to senior leadership at the end of the internship
  • Assumes responsibility for own travel, lodging, and transportation necessary to be available for the program
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High school grad / GED
  • Maintain active enrollment in a Bachelor or higher degree program
  • Maintain cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
