Position Specific Description

Our Product Delivery team has an opening for a Senior IT Network Engineer with 5 years’ experience in the field. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and regulatory knowledge essential for critical infrastructure operations. 

The position reports directly to the IT Leader with work location in Miami-Dade. 

In this position you will work with some of the brightest minds in the clean energy and utility industry as they work to ensure NextEra is the largest and most capable clean energy provider in North America and the best electric utility in the world.  

  

Job Duties & Responsibilities  

  • Manage enterprise firewall infrastructure, processing 450+ change requests annually while maintaining zero network impact  
  • Oversee implementation and maintenance of 20,000+ firewall rules supporting NextEra Energy and FPL business operations 
  • Provide technical leadership and support across multiple data centers, driving continuous improvement initiatives with an innovative engineering approach to problem resolution  
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering professional growth and technical excellence within the networking organization 
  • Design, plan, and deploy network infrastructure while proactively identifying and resolving potential issues before they impact operations  
  • Perform complex troubleshooting and root cause analysis using advanced diagnostic tools and methodologies 
  • Ensure network operations comply with NERC CIP standards and other regulatory requirements, maintaining thorough knowledge of compliance frameworks  
  • Serve as Lead Firewall Engineer for critical IT-OT network segmentation projects, enhancing organizational cybersecurity posture 
  • Perform quarterly Electronic Security Perimeter (CIP-005) compliance assessments across 120+ network segments, maintaining audit-ready status  
  • Drive automation initiatives in firewall rule management, contributing to sustained operational excellence with zero security violations and zero customer impact 
  • Must have experience with Palo Alto firewalls, Cisco Nexus NX-OS, Cisco Catalyst and IOS. Arista switches is a plus. 
  • Ability to multi-task projects with exceptional interpersonal skills and strong analytical skills  
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned  

Job Overview

This role is responsible for assisting with the design, leading the implementation, and supporting the maintenance of our enterprise network infrastructure. Employees in this role work directly with management, project managers, and business leaders to ensure that projects are successfully delivered on-time and within budget. This position acts as an escalation point for issues that are encountered in our 24x7 environment to ensure that the availability and performance of our systems is maintained. Employees also ensure that all documentation is accurate and up-to-date and that our infrastructure remains secure at all times.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

•  Works directly with equipment manufactures to assess new technologies and how they can be applied to provide solutions to increase availability, reliability, and business agility or to reduce operating costs

•  Analyzes new projects and designs network solutions that will support their implementation

•  Participates in the implementation of network infrastructure

•  Creates as-built design documentation for all new projects and network engineering efforts, and ensures they remain up-to-date as the network evolves

•  Maintains the availability and integrity of our enterprise network infrastructure, including wired and wireless networks, network security infrastructure, and voice transport infrastructure

•  Maintains the security of network infrastructure and compliance with all applicable industry and security standards

•  Demonstrates experience with network management operational tools such as Cisco Prime, Netscout, and IBM Tivoli

•  Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

•  High School Grad / GED

•  Bachelor’s or Equivalent Experience

•  Experience: 4+ years
