Position Specific Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer to join our Enterprise Data Program (EDP) team. The ideal candidate must have a strong background in data operations, platform engineering, automation, and resiliency in the cloud. The new employee will play a crucial role in implementing, enhancing and maintaining our cloud-based data infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, resiliency, cost-optimization and security. • Cloud Infrastructure: Design, implement, and manage cloud infrastructure (AWS) to support EDP data operations and platform engineering initiatives.
• Data Operations: Develop and maintain data pipelines, workflows, and architecture to ensure efficient data processing and management. Implement best practices for data governance, quality, and security.
• Automation: Create automated solutions for continuous integration, continuous delivery (CI/CD), and infrastructure as code (IaC) to enhance deployment efficiency and consistency.
• Resiliency: Develop and implement strategies for disaster recovery, system backups, and incident management to ensure system integrity and availability.
• Platform Engineering: Collaborate with development and operations teams to build and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure data platforms. Ensure proper monitoring, alerting, and logging practices are in place.
• Performance Optimization: Monitor system performance and identify areas for improvement. Implement optimizations to enhance system efficiency and reduce operational costs.
• Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, engineers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
• Security: Ensure compliance with EDP and corporate security policies and best practices. Implement security controls to protect data and infrastructure from vulnerabilities and threats.
• Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for cloud infrastructure, processes, and procedures. Ensure knowledge sharing and collaboration within the team.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in cloud DevOps, data operations, or a similar role within a technology-driven environment.
• Technical Proficiency: Expert in AWS cloud platform and services and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins).
• Automation & Scripting: Strong experience with automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) to streamline operations and processes.
• Data Engineering: Proficiency in data processing, configuration and governance frameworks, ETL processes, and relational and NoSQL databases, and data warehouses (e.g. Voyager, Attacama, Immuta, PowerBI,
• Monitoring & Logging: Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (e.g. Grafana) to ensure system health and performance.
• Security & Compliance: Knowledge of security best practices, compliance requirements, and tools for securing cloud infrastructure and data.
• Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues in a rapidly changing environment.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Experience in the energy or utilities sector.
• Certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer).
• Familiarity with data privacy regulations and compliance requirements.
• Experience with serverless architectures and microservices.
Job Overview
This position is responsible for managing, monitoring and deploying a highly available, highly scalable production application. The individual will be responsible for one or more environments and/or systems and interface directly with the Development and Operations team on a daily basis for the maintenance, expansion, and documentation of these environments, providing assistance and review of proposed architectures, as needed. This role is responsible for vetting emerging technologies and guides the direction of the teams that support software development.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Drives the automation and continuous improvement of the software delivery process
- Manages the continuous integration services maintenance and configuration, ensuring the build environment is meeting the needs of the software developers
- Leads the maintenance and creation of automatic deployment of software builds to the test and production environments, enabling the operations team to easily and consistently deploy new software products
- Monitors system development and maintenance and ensures that staff at all technical levels are informed of the health of our systems
- Evaluates Operation teams processes and automates repetitive and temporary solutions
- Improves the product environment and practices used by the software developers
- Sets up back-up mechanisms for production environments and test disaster recovery mechanisms
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
