Position Specific Description

The IT team designs, develops and maintains massively scaling technology solutions that are brought to life with innovative architectures, data analytics and digital solutions. We are now taking these innovative architectures and digital solutions to the cloud. We are looking for the right intern to help us design and implement some of the most cutting edge work at the company. This will include working closely with the application teams as well as working internally in the infrastructure teams to properly align tool sets and operational functions to provide enterprise class support for cloud computing. College Intern technical skills we would be interested in:

 

1. Cloud Innovation skills and vision. The most important, and the most overlooked. Cloud is more than simply a swap from an in-house computer to an outside service. It represents a whole new way of doing business. Candidate must handle complex long-term focused projects involving multiple disciplines or business units. Provides leadership and direction to high priority or special projects undertaken by the business. area. Recommends to client and IT management appropriate technological alternatives. Evaluates new technological developments and evolving business requirements. Provides high-level specialized technical support and consultation to business and IT management."

2. Vendor relationship and negotiating skills. Tracks and monitors data necessary to ensure compliance to negotiated contracts on an ongoing basis and provides ad hoc reporting as required by enterprise systems. Provides and presents ad hoc analyses such as contract terms, dollar spend, process compliance.

3. Business architectural, analysis and planning skills. Leads in the development of the technical solution or offering, in translating the business needs into technical requirements. Identifies gaps, strategic impacts, financial impacts and the risk profile in the technical solution or offering, and provides technical support.

4. Technical knowledge of developing cloud-ready applications, such as those built on open standards, network development and monitoring skills, and security skills.

 

Candidates must have:

Programming capabilities in either: Python, C++, Java, PHP or Shell. All of these languages are used to develop automated scripts and micro-services and will be needed as we continue to move to the Cloud. In addition, coursework/certifications in: AWS(Amazon) , Azure (Microsoft) and Bluemix (IBM) Cloud would also be desirable.

Strong verbal and written communication skills and Students majoring in IT or Computer

Science in their Sophomore or Junior year of College/ University

 

Future Cloud Tracks to Aspire to & requirements:

1) Cloud Software App developer/Engineer: Computer science or engineering with expertise in ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) techniques and tools. Programming knowledge of Unix/Linux OS and compiled-code language. Experience in SOA technologies, and  expertise in working with cloud products such as Perl, Python, Java, Shell, C++  is also mandatory.

2) Cloud Network and Computer Systems Administrators: Cloud Network computer system administrators carry out the operational support, maintenance, implementation, and optimization of network software, hardware and communication connections of the cloud infrastructure. Computer systems administrators support and maintain the virtual systems. The responsibilities here also include planning, innovating, and maintaining internal systems and networks to provide best cloud solutions, and sometimes checking the efficiency of the company’s cloud backup and recovery product. The required credentials include education background in computer science and considerable experience in network engineering with demonstrated in-depth knowledge of Firewalls, DNS, DHCP, NAT and routing, TCP/IP, Layer 2 network protocols, Layer 3 IP routing, and scripting abilities in Shell, Perl or Python. Potential employees in this area must also be Cisco Certified.

3) Cloud Architects: Cloud architects are those tasked with the development and implementation of cloud-based set-ups. They work towards ensuring that the cloud systems are secure, reliable, supportable, scalable, and able to achieve the IT and business performance goals of different customers. The experiences required for this job category include an educational background in computer science or engineering with expertise in VBScript, Python, and Shell. One also needs to be knowledgeable with Windows and Linux plus considerable experience in designing, installing and administering virtualized environments and the expertise in working with cloud products.

4) Cloud Systems Engineers: Cloud systems engineers are the chief contributors to the development and design of the virtual systems and interfaces that support cloud operations. In simple terms, all the technologies supporting cloud implementation are built by cloud system engineers. They need to have education background in information technology, computer science or any related technical degree. The requirements also include understanding the use of application and network layers and uptime hosting environment. The experience with configuration management, scripting, clustering, Drupal, monitoring tools, and internet security is required by rule. The knowledge of software development tools such as Python, C++, Java and PHP are also very essential.

Job Overview

Employees in the role will be provided mentoring and practical hands on experience for relevant career-related activities encountered in the student’s area of study or specialization. To be considered for this position the applicant must be actively enrolled at a college or university as a full-time student seeking a bachelor’s degree or higher. Candidate must also have a current GPA of 3.00 or higher (on a 0.00 to 4.00 scale).
