Position Specific Description

The Data Science internship role for Analysis & Resolution Team (ART) will contribute to the development of data-driven solutions to reduce Pending Work Queues (PWQs) and improve back-office operations. This position focuses on analyzing PWQ types, aging, and workload drivers to support backlog reduction and process improvement initiatives. Utilizing Python, Power BI, SQL, and other analytical tools, the role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance back-office analytics and operational efficiency. This internship offers an opportunity to work alongside experienced analysts on projects that directly impact billing timeliness, revenue recognition, and customer experience within the ART organization.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist ART with PWQ backlog analysis, aging trends, and process-improvement data collection.
  • Develop dashboards and reports in Power BI and perform data analysis using Python and SQL to illuminate PWQ drivers and cross-team dependencies (e.g., BOS, FMO, MCO CGI).
  • Identify operational anomalies and opportunities for automation or streamlined workflows; design, prototype, and implement automation solutions (where feasible), collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy them, and present findings, pilot results, and recommended deployment plans to leadership.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate data insights into actionable recommendations for backlog reduction and performance improvements.
  • Present final project to senior leadership at the end of the internship.
  • Assume responsibility for own travel, lodging, and transportation necessary to be available for the program.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Active enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program.
  • Maintain cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g., SQL, Python, Power BI) or coursework in related areas.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework or experience in data analytics, business analytics, or operations analytics.
  • Exposure to back-office operations, PWQ concepts, and process improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma).
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, and Power BI; comfortable working with large data sets.
  • Interest in applying data science techniques to practical back-office problems and backlog reduction.

Job Overview

To be considered for an internship, you must be actively enrolled at a college or university as a full-time student seeking a bachelor’s degree or higher. You must also have a current cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher (on a 0.00 to 4.00 scale).
