Position Specific Description

This position is for an individual contributor reporting to a functional team within the Transmission & Substation (T&S) Technology organization responsible for support of transmission/distribution modeling and commissioning of power system equipment necessary for grid control applications within the Energy Management System (EMS). This functional team is also responsible for the maintenance of all situational awareness displays for operators/dispatchers.  This position supports industry developments such as Smart Grid to support the T&S mission.

This position will be working with the field Protection & Control Engineers to test and release new Smart Grid devices into service.

 The end results from the effort put in by a person in this position include, but not limited to the following:

  • Highly available Grid Control Systems (or Emerging Technology) and applications that meet or exceed development or operational targets
  • Compliant cyber security and protection processes of Grid Control Systems (or Emerging Technology) and applications
  • Strong customer relationships to the organization’s internal and external customers
  • Efficient execution of work plan and related activities in the systems development and/or maintenance and support of Grid Control Systems (or Emerging Technology) and applications to meet or exceed objectives.

 To achieve these results, a person in this position needs to demonstrate through training and/or acquired experience

  • The necessary technical and functional skills required to contribute his/her expertise to a functional area within the T&S Technology organization
  • Excellent development, operational and organizational skills necessary to deliver highly available Grid Control Systems (or Emerging Technology) and applications
  • Resource management skills to prioritize work plans to develop, maintain, and support systems critical to the T&S Technology organization
  • Commercial awareness to ensure that risks are properly managed, and (e) an indomitable spirit of seeking value through technical innovation and operational excellence.

Job Overview

Employees in this position will be assigned to a functional team within the business unit technology group performing technical or administrative tasks for one of the following: grid monitoring and control systems, Emerging Technology, compliance-related support, or business support functions (e.g., procurement, payment processing, etc.).

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Executes assigned technical and administrative activities
  • Completes budget tracking, processing, and payment of communication circuits costs
  • Completes inventory tracking and the procurement of system hardware components
  • Conducts audit and spot check preparations, functional audits, and cyber security and protection processes compliant with national/regional standards
  • Executes inspection plans and/or condition assessment processes and application/infrastructure processes and/or workflows
  • Supports and executes the requirements of FRCC Reliability Coordinator Operations per FPL/FRCC Agent Agreement related to the FPL SCC
  • Ensures compliance to the NERC Reliability Standards, FERC Standards of Conduct, and applicable FERC Orders
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Equivalent Experience
  • Experience: 0+ years
