Position Specific Description

Regulatory Risk and Strategy Office

To support NextEra Energy's Regulatory Risk and Strategy Office (“RRS”) through the monitoring, investigation, and resolution of regulatory compliance events and issues. Among their duties, this role coordinates responses to regulatory inquiries and Requests for Information (RFI)s, evaluates compliance events such as violations and audit findings, and oversees mitigation and corrective actions to ensure regulatory risks are addressed and systemic issues are identified and escalated appropriately.

 

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a business, regulatory compliance legal-related field
  • 7+ years of regulatory experience
  • Experience analyzing compliance violations or regulatory enforcement matters
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agencies or responding to regulatory inquiries, audits, RFIs, or investigations
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills
  • Knowledge of energy markets, transmission, grid regulation, and state-specific utility regulatory frameworks
  • Familiarity with stakeholder engagement strategies and coordination with industry groups

 

Preffered Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Working knowledge of governance, risk, and compliance (“GRC”) applications

 

Primary (Essential) Job Functions

  • Manage and coordinate with Business Units throughout NextEra to drive the completion and responses to regulatory RFIs, NOVs, data requests, and other inquiries.
  • Conduct assessments of compliance events to identify systemic issues and apply lessons learned to strengthen oversight and prevent recurrence.
  • Coordinate investigations and fact-finding efforts related to compliance issues across Business Units.
  • Coordinate activities across internal and external stakeholders, maintain documentation, and track follow-up actions associated with regulatory initiatives.
  • Support ongoing mitigation plans and partners with Business Units on the development of plans
  • Prepare briefing materials and reporting on significant compliance matters for leadership in conjunction with Business Units.
  • Provide support for ongoing Regulatory Compliance projects, initiatives, and compliance-related efforts to ensure regulatory initiatives and obligations are executed accurately and on schedule.

Decision Making

Responsible for evaluating regulatory compliance events and determining whether issues represent isolated occurrences or broader systemic risks requiring escalation or additional investigation. The role must assess available information, coordinate fact-finding efforts across Business Units, and support leadership in determining appropriate mitigation, reporting, or self-reporting actions.

 

Communications & Organizational Requirements

Responsible for maintaining regular communication with Leadership regarding compliance events, mitigation progress, and emerging risk trends. The role requires close coordination with Business Units and other stakeholders to gather information, track remediation efforts, and reinforce accountability for resolving compliance issues while ensuring regulatory obligations are met.

Employees in this role are responsible for regulatory interface, developing regulatory strategy, and representation of company in legal or regulatory proceedings.

•   Analyzes and reports on changes in regulations and their expected impacts
•   Prepares federal and state certification applications and required filings
•   Assists management in the monitoring of state and federal regulatory and legislative development to identify issues affecting company's operations and plans
•   Assists in coordinating the representation of organization's interests before state regulatory and legislative bodies or industry standard setting committees
•   Influences rules and procedures
•   Provides guidance to less experienced regulatory affairs analysts
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned
