Position Specific Description

At NextEra Energy Inc., Florida Power and Light (FPL) our people are our greatest asset and our FPL IT Systems Team is seeking a programmer analyst to help take us to the Next Era.  Our Information Technology Smart Grid Group is seeking candidates to collaborate on creating and implementing plans for smart meter data analytics. This role will require background in the following data specific areas:

 

  • Proven technical expertise in multiple areas including development of high volume event processing, large scale databases, large scale analytics and machine learning
  • Strong background with Enterprise Data Warehouse concepts and the use of In-Memory technologies, to deliver analytics on large scale high volume event based systems such as Kafka
  • Expertise in data modeling, structured, unstructured or semi-structured data processing for cloud and on premise implementations, including Smart Grid data exchange models such as IEC CIM
  • Experience in Big data stores such as Hadoop/Cassandra/MongoDB, AWS S3, RedShift and traditional data stores such as Oracle, SQL Server, Greenplum, Netezza, Teradata, and SAP BW/HANA.
  • Experience in tools such as MS Power BI, SAP Business Objects, statistical analysis tools and programming languages for machine learning such as R, SAS, Python
  • Experience in building micro-services, Web Services, Map Reduce, Spark based Analytics processing
  • Demonstrated ability to work with business partners to analyze strategy and trends to define the requirements, principles, standards and models that guide technology decisions

Job Overview

This position develops and integrates new or existing applications into the technical infrastructure and existing business processes. Employees in this role provide technical or functional guidance to project or work teams, as needed within a specific discipline.

Job Duties & Responsibilities


•   Analyzes, designs, develops, tests, debugs, implements, maintains and/or enhances existing or new systems, that are reliable and efficient
•   Develops customized programming solutions, and maintains existing system functionality
•   Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems, and prepares detailed specifications from which programs will be written
•   Applies appropriate development methodologies, system development lifecycles, tools and technology
•   Collaborates on an on-going basis with the Business Systems Analyst
•   Participates in the ticket management and resolution processes, including receiving, resolution monitoring and customer satisfaction
•   Leads projects when needed
•   Provides direction, training and guidance for less experienced staff
•   Builds strong working understanding of the solution being delivered
•   Ensures user satisfaction by providing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and timely resolution of more complex problems
•   Follows and participates in the defined Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), Sarbanes Oxley (Sox) compliance, and General Computing Controls
•   Defines metrics and monitors Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for systems being developed
•   Meets daily, weekly and monthly reporting requirements   
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned
