Position Specific Description

Requires extensive knowledge in nondestructive examination (NDE) programs and processes used  in nuclear  applications. Responsible for acting as the Fleet NDE Level III UT, VT, MT, and PT. Responsible for the content of NDE training, examination/certification of qualified Level I, Level II, and Level Ill NDE personnel and maintaining master certification records for NDE personnel.  Ensure that all assigned activities meet all regulatory and code requirements.  Perform analyses in support of decision that are critical to plant operation and regulatory compliance. 

 

Duties to include:

 

  • Review/approve Technical Justifications for Reactor Internals examinations in accordance with MRP-228 for visual and ultrasonic examinations. 
  • Review/approval of Vendor’s Ultrasonic Phased Array Data Acquisition/Analysis Guidelines, Training Programs and Processes meet the industry guidelines as required by NEI 03-08, ASME Section XI Appendix VIII and 10CFR 50.55a for Dissimilar Metal Welds. 
  • Review/approval of vendor NDE Procedures, Written Practice(Qualification/Certification) document and any nonconformance identified against the certification program.
  • Review/approval of existing calibration standards, alternative calibration blocks and material certifications for new calibration standards, as applicable.  
  • Identify and provide Technical Justification for Relief Request for examinations that cannot be performed per the ASME Code. 
  • Attend industry meetings as the NextEra Energy representative to obtain knowledge of changes and OE from other utilities 
  • Provide oversight review of sample datasheet and site engineering dispositions of indications that do not meet the ASME acceptance criteria.
  • Verify all final engineering evaluations on recorded indications for Section XI compliance.  
  • Maintaining the NDE lab with examination coupons, equipment and materials necessary for Fleet NDE certifications, maintaining proper storage of site mock-ups after outage use for demonstrations. 
  • Maintain confidentiality of test questions, answer sheets and test specimens. 
  • Evaluate and testing of new inspection technology and code changes as they occur. 
  • Participate in NUPIC, Vendor and QA audits as a technical specialist. These opportunities are also used for benchmarking.
  • Develop and maintain the written practice
  • Review of vendor’s NDE certifications and/or procedures, as required by Projects Group and Procurement
  • Maintain annual proficiency reviews as required by the ASME Code and written practice
  • Certify Fleet NDE technicians for written and practical examinations, as required.

 

Qualifications: American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ANSl) NDT Level III Certification in UT, MT, PT and VT methods required. Need to be knowledgeable in Phased Array UT.  Familiar with ASME Codes and Standards, ANSl/ASME B31.1, ANSI/ASNT CP·189 and ASNT SNT-TC-1A.

  • Serves as technical liaison to individuals within and outside the organization
  • Acts independently regarding technical matters pertaining to area of expertise
  • Evaluates, monitors and conducts trend analyses on the performance of assigned nuclear systems
  • Troubleshoots systems, performs predictive and root cause analysis, and initiates corrective action
  • Conducts and reviews systems surveillance
  • Design, perform and verify analysis of preventive maintenance programs of assigned systems
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Grad / GED
  • Associate's or Equivalent Experience
  • Experience: 14+ years
  • Nuclear Experience: 9+ years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree
  • Bachelor's - Sciences

Special Requirements

Nuclear Specific Requirements:

  • Associate's in Engineering, Engineering Technology or equivalent military training/experience
  • Engineering or related technical experience in assigned area: 15+ years
  • Completed training in area of expertise through approved industry groups such as EPRI, NACE, ASME, etc.
  • Work experience with engineering technology principles and theory as it relates to power plant systems, components and structures

 

Nuclear Specific Preferences:

  • Bachelor's in Engineering Technology or related technical discipline
