Job Overview

Candidate will be responsible for providing mechanical, operational, and vibration analysis support to the steam turbine fleet.   The candidate will have a SME knowledge (to varying degrees) of all turbine generator mechanical sub-systems, basic design, performance, preventive maintenance, alignment, repairs, outage practices, start-up, and troubleshooting.  Also, candidate shall have expertise in vibration analysis with working knowledge regarding the operation and maintenance of a large diverse steam turbine fleet. 

 

There may be an opportunity for the successful candidate to primarily support the combustion turbine fleet in lieu of steam turbine.  In that instance, the vibration support would also primarily be for combustion turbine.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Candidate would be expected to work in a team environment and also display exceptional initiative to self-manage tasks.
  • Overnight travel is required, especially during outage seasons, but typically does not average more than a night or two per week, except in special cases.
  • After-hours support typically involves fairly frequent phone consultations and actual call outs on rare occasions.
  • This position does not provide continual onsite technical direction of outage activities except for unusual situations.
  • Steam Turbine Engineering Responsibilities
    • Typical turbine support would include working with plant personnel in troubleshooting and resolving operational issues, prioritizing and planning upcoming maintenance work, onsite support for the maintenance group for specific overhaul issues, disposition of components for repair, managing outside vendor work, and directing other major initiatives.
    • Continuous enhancement of the steam turbine maintenance strategy with focus on reliability, availability, and cost.
  • Vibration Analysis Responsibilities
    • Provide vibration analysis for rotating equipment in the fleet, with an emphasis on steam turbine
    • Work closely with support groups identifying opportunities to improve monitoring and prediction efforts utilizing vibration data. A working knowledge of basic coding and statistic’s maybe necessary for successfully establishing operating parameters to predict potential failures. Experience developing algorithms utilizing various data systems is a plus.
    • Support of other rotating equipment may be required as part of this role, including combustion turbines, 4KV+ motors and pumps, and wind turbines.

•   Acts as technical liaison to individuals within and outside the organization with responsibility to act independently regarding technical matters pertaining to individual's field
•   Completes assignments given in broad terms concerning general objectives and limitations
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned
