Position Specific Description

The expansion of the transmission system will pave the way for a carbon-free future that allows renewables to be implemented in resource optimal locations and transported to load centers. In order to achieve this goal, significant amounts of new transmission infrastructure will need to be built. NextEra Energy Transmission (NEET) is the leading competitive transmission developer in the US and Canada to develop transmission solutions that enable this future.

 

The NEET Transmission Planning Director leads the technical planning efforts in support of transmission development throughout the US and Canada. This position is responsible for overseeing a team of transmission planning experts in the intricate technical and economic analysis to identify the most cost-effective and competitive transmission projects to meet identified and projected transmission needs. This position sets planning strategy and leads all aspects of the project planning, including need/solution identification, reliability analysis, financial and engineering/design viability, economic and expanded benefit analysis, legal review, submittal development, and RTO/ISO engagement.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Translates company financial, commercial, risk management, technical and operating goals into effective strategies and objectives
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with internal stakeholders and external strategic partners
  • Assembles and leads internal, cross-functional, multi-disciplined teams through solicitations and innovative solution development
  • Provides overall leadership and drives key decisions during new transmission opportunities
  • Communicates effectively to all levels, including senior leadership
  • Oversee technical analysis to anticipate strategic project sites and routing for new transmission projects, considering anticipated ISO/RTO needs
  • Actively engage, understand, and contribute to ISO/RTO planning processes, building strong relationships
  • Contribute to the writing of development proposals for new opportunities, including technical submittals on the identified solutions and analyses performed
  • Provide guidance in the development of transmission policy that supports competitive transmission opportunities
  • Drive enhancements to state-of-the-art tools to better identify optimal transmission opportunities from the analysis of a multitude of scenarios and sensitivities
  • Lead the coordination with internal and external Subject Matter Experts to arrive at the most cost-effective and competitive transmission solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable technical and regulatory requirements.
  • Mentor and develop new transmission planners
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • 10% - 25% travel required.
     

Ideally candidate will sit onsite in our Juno Beach, FL Headquarters however; other locations may be considered for qualified candidates.

Job Overview

Employees in this role are responsible for leading and coordinating key functions of a project such as financial feasibility analysis, engineering/design, project legal review and financial negotiations. The position plays a key role in building strategic relationships and executing major contracts necessary to support the Company’s generating business growth initiatives. This role reviews and oversees the development of key project agreements. This role is responsible for all aspects of the business deal and will be involved in the closure of multiple projects.

  • Assembles and leads internal cross functional, multi-disciplined teams through the solicitation and negotiation processes
  • Provides overall leadership and drive key decisions during negotiations
  • Delivers on contracting objectives and proforma requirements
  • Delivers contracts that position the internal project execution team for maximum success
  • Manages the contracting budget and schedule for assigned projects
  • Provides periodic updates to and interact with senior management
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Grad/GED
  • Bachelor's or Equivalent Experience
  • Experience:  10+ years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's - Business Administration
  • Master's - Business Administration
