Position Specific Description

Joining NextEra’s Accounting Advisory Group provides a unique opportunity to build a career at one of the nation’s leading energy companies while working on complex and high-impact transactions at the forefront of the growth of the U.S. energy industry.

The Accounting Advisory Group partners closely with business, commercial, finance, and legal teams to provide clear, practical, and technically sound accounting advice on significant transactions and emerging business opportunities. When our business partners are evaluating a complex deal structure, investment, joint venture, acquisition, financing, lease, revenue arrangement, or other strategic transaction, they look to our team to help evaluate the accounting implications and support informed decision-making.

This role offers the opportunity to apply and further develop technical accounting expertise while building strong business acumen in a fast-paced and evolving industry. You will work directly with a broad group of stakeholders, including senior management, and help the business navigate complex accounting and financial reporting considerations in a way that supports the company’s growth objectives.

No two projects in this role will be the same. As part of the Accounting Advisory Group, you will evaluate the accounting implications of proposed and existing transactions, research and apply relevant accounting guidance, develop practical solutions to complex issues, and communicate conclusions clearly to both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders. The role requires intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to balance technical accounting requirements with business partner expectations.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • A demonstrated interest in the energy industry, deal structuring, complex accounting, and transaction-based activities
  • 6+ years of public accounting experience or a combination of public accounting and industry experience in accounting research, technical accounting, and/or financial reporting
  • A desire to develop deep and current knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Prior exposure to technical accounting matters, including areas such as consolidations, business combinations, investments, leases, revenue recognition, financial instruments, debt, and equity financings
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to research and resolve emerging issues in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting matters clearly and practically
  • Strong leadership, project management, and collaboration skills, with a commitment to contributing to a high-performing team
  • The ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Previous technical accounting experience is a plus, but we are primarily interested in highly motivated individuals who are intellectually curious, business-minded, and capable of solving complex problems.
This role is located at our headquarters in Juno Beach, FL and will report directly to the Director of Technical Accounting.
