Position Specific Description

This role is located at our headquarters in Juno Beach, FL and reports directly to the Director/Manager of Accounting Policy and Research. The position supports all NextEra Energy, Inc. entities, including Florida Power & Light Company and NextEra Energy Resources, and serves as a technical accounting advisor to ensure consistent interpretation and application of relevant accounting literature for current and proposed transactions.

 

The role partners with management to evaluate the accounting implications of alternative deal structures and supports business units on significant and non-routine transactions through technical accounting research and analysis, utilizing a variety of research resources, including artificial intelligence. Responsibilities also include reviewing and approving accounting policy matters, addressing accounting issues and policy changes, and keeping senior management informed of proposed accounting standard updates and their potential impact on the Company’s financial statements.

 

In addition, this position will oversee and lead the implementation of new accounting standards.

 

Qualifications:

  • Extensive, current knowledge of U.S. GAAP

  • Strong understanding of accounting guidance across key areas, including consolidations, equity method investments, leases, revenue recognition, property and capitalization, derivatives, financial instruments, and debt and equity financings

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to evaluate complex transactions

  • Sound commercial judgment and business acumen

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts to diverse stakeholders

  • Demonstrated leadership and project management skills

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other technical accounting professionals and controller groups across the organization

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Job Overview

This job serves all NextEra Energy, Inc. entities to ensure that the companies are appropriately and consistently interpreting and applying relevant accounting literature to current and proposed transactions which directly impact the Companies’ financial statements and disclosures.

•   Works with management to consider the accounting implications of alternative deal structures
•   Keeps senior management informed about potential changes in accounting rules being proposed by accounting standard setters, including the potential impact to the Companies’ financial statements
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

•  Bachelor's Degree
•  Experience: 5+ years
•  Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Preferred Qualifications

•  Bachelor's - Accounting / Finance
•  Master's - Business Administration
