Position Specific Description

The Tax Fixed Asset team at NextEra Energy is responsible for supplying fixed asset information to support the compliance, planning and forecast functions of the tax organization. The team focuses on ensuring accurate, complete and timely information is provided and readily available to support the company’s compliance and strategic goals. The effective use of technology, products, data management, and analytics is key to the success of the fixed asset team. On a day to day basis we are involved in meeting business needs by providing detailed fixed asset information from both a historic and forecast view.

We are looking for a dynamic professional with knowledge and experience in managing fixed asset accounting data in a capital-intensive environment.  The individual must have the ability to understand business requirements and translate those into delivering solutions that meet the business needs. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated and have a continuous improvement mindset with a natural drive to take ownership of the deliverables. In addition, the individual will have the vision and passion for viewing the strategic impact fixed assets has on the organization and driving change to enable that vision.

 

  • Manage the coordination of the Fixed Asset team’s deliverables to customers
  • Manage the schedule of deliverables and assignment of team members responsibilities
  • Maintain and monitor all Fixed Asset related accounts including costs, depreciation, transfers, gain/loss on disposal, and asset retirement obligations
  • Provide reports and analysis as needed for compliance, tax accounting, forecast and tax planning needs
  • Work cross functionally with all areas of the tax organization to support the account reconciliation process by providing fixed asset roll-forward and balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Provide technical expertise for fixed asset accounting
  • Knowledge of partnership transactions and impact on fixed assets.
  • Identify and implement improvements to existing processes through use of technology and innovation
  • Ability to quickly establish priorities and meet all assigned deadlines related to the fixed asset processes
  • Work cross functionally with other departments regarding income statement, balance sheet and income tax expense accounts and reconciling variances
  • Identify and implement improvements to existing processes through use of technology and innovation
  • Effective communication within tax organization to ensure efficient process for meeting business requirements

 

Must Have Skills

  • Prior experience in managing projects
  • Prior experience in accounting for fixed assets
  • Prior experience in conducting client workshops and facilitating stakeholder meetings
  • Ability to understand business requirements and transform them into solutions that deliver timely and accurate results
  • Experience in business processes mapping, gap analysis and re-defining future state processes.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and data analysis skills.
  • Skilled in using Microsoft office tools: MS Excel, Power Query, Power Point, Word.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

 

Desired Skills

  • Prior experience with financial accounting and tax processes and systems such as SAP ECC, SAP BW, PowerPlan, BNA, CorpTax, ONESOURCE Tax Provision, etc.
  • Knowledge of Energy & Utilities domain and processes.
  • Exposure to automation and process automation tools such as RPA, Alteryx, Power Automate etc.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication and technical skills
  • Strong experience with technology and automation
  • Experience in Public Accounting or with large corporate processes related to accounting for fixed assets.

Job Overview

Employees in this position are responsible for one or more of the following: tax research, planning, forecasting, analysis, and defense of tax positions.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages tax related projects, including system maintenance and/or development
  • Prepares and/or reviews tax returns and corresponding tax work papers and files
  • Researches law, regulations, administrative rulings and court cases and presents proposals to lawfully minimize tax liability
  • Researches and drafts responses to inquiries from government agencies regarding tax filings, and other claims
  • Provides and/or verifies tax assumptions and tax results in project models
  • Leads project teams to improve quality, efficiency, predictability and/or transparency
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience: 6+ years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's - Accounting / Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
