Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy is seeking a Tax Project Manager to join the Tax Forecasting team located in Juno Beach, Florida.   NextEra Energy Resources is the world's largest producer of energy from renewable wind and solar resources while Florida Power and Light is a regulated utility that serves approximately 5 million customers in Florida.


In this role you will participate in all activities related to internal and management reporting requirements of NextEra tax forecast including, strategic analysis of : (1) generate management reports supporting income tax expense and payments for forecasts and budgeting; (2) analyze cash tax payments and utilization of tax credits; (3) work with other departments regarding income statement, balance sheet and income  tax expense accounts and reconciling variances; (4) assist with preparation of long range forecast of tax payments, income tax expense and tax credit utilization.


Job Duties

  • Prepare the consolidated tax forecast for NextEra Energy and subsidiaries on a monthly, quarterly and ad hoc basis
  • Quantitative analysis of proposed legislative impacts, complex excel modeling and preparation of summary presentations for senior management
  • Prepare the Long-term tax forecast used to drive the rapidly growing business
  • Work closely with tax counsel to forecast the impacts of federal and state legislative changes
  • Prepare the Tax Monthly Operating and Performance Review “MOPR” for Corporate Entities
  • Identify and implement improvements to existing processes through use of technology and innovation
  • Compare actual results to forecasted results and analyze and quantifies the primary drivers of the changes; ability to effectively communicate results to senior level management.
  • Partner with compliance team to minimize return to provision adjustments and with tax accounting team to align forecast with time and amount of actual transactions
  • Effective communication with forecasting and compliance teams to ensure efficient process from forecasting to return filing
  • Ability to quickly establish priorities and meet all assigned deadlines related to the forecasting processes

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages tax related projects, including system maintenance and/or development
  • Prepares and/or reviews tax returns and corresponding tax work papers and files
  • Researches law, regulations, administrative rulings and court cases and presents proposals to lawfully minimize tax liability
  • Researches and drafts responses to inquiries from government agencies regarding tax filings, and other claims
  • Provides and/or verifies tax assumptions and tax results in project models
  • Leads project teams to improve quality, efficiency, predictability and/or transparency
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience: 7+ years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's - Accounting / Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
