Position Specific Description
The Tax Fixed Asset team at NextEra Energy is responsible for supplying information to support the compliance, planning and forecast functions of the tax organization. The team focuses on ensuring accurate, complete and timely information is provided and readily available to support the company’s compliance and strategic goals. The effective use of technology, data management, and analytics is key to the success of the fixed asset team. On a day-to-day basis we are involved in meeting business needs by providing detailed fixed asset information from both a historic and forecast view. We are looking for a dynamic professional with an interest in fixed assets accounting data and working in a capital-intensive environment. The individual must have the ability to understand business requirements and translate those into delivering solutions that meet the business needs. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated and have a continuous improvement mindset with a natural drive to take ownership of the deliverables. Position Specific Responsibilities Must Have Skills
• Maintain and monitor assigned tax workpapers required on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis for Fixed Asset accounts including costs, transfers, gain/loss on disposal, and asset retirements obligations
• Prepare and assist with financial reporting for fixed assets, including compliance with federal regulations
• Perform tax depreciation calculations on all fixed assets using the appropriate conventions and methods (e.g., straight-line, declining balance) in accordance with GAAP
• Provide external auditors with support regarding fixed assets provision and compliance calculations
• Compute above and below the line deductions for financial forecast, tax provision, tax compliance, and regulatory planning
• Track and monitor activity related to fixed assets Schedule M-1s and supplemental roll forwards
• Analyze and quantify drivers that impact the company’s EDIT and taxable income expectations
• Partner with various accounting groups to identify and effectively explain variances related fixed assets financials
• Work cross functionally with other departments regarding fixed asset forecasting and other regulatory requests
• Ability to quickly establish and adjust priorities to meet all assigned deadlines and deliverables
• Maintain and enhance procedures related to fixed asset accounting
• Identify and develop process improvements through use of technology and innovation
• Prior experience in managing projects
• Prior experience in tax accounting or tax compliance
• Ability to understand business requirements and transform them into solutions that deliver timely and accurate results
• Excellent analytical, problem solving and data analysis skills.
• Skilled in using Microsoft office tools: MS Excel, Power Query, Power Point, Word.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Desired Skills
• Prior experience with financial accounting and tax processes and systems such as SAP ECC, SAP BW, PowerPlan, BNA, CorpTax, ONESOURCE Tax Provision, etc.
• Knowledge of Energy & Utilities domain and processes.
• Exposure to automation and process automation tools such as RPA, Alteryx, Power Automate etc.
• Exceptional analytical, communication and technical skills
• Strong experience with technology and automation
• Experience in Public Accounting or with large corporate processes related to accounting.
Job Overview
This job is responsible for moderate to complex projects associated with the maintenance of tax records and the preparation of all or specifically assigned tax returns, separate company corporate income tax and partnership tax returns, consolidated tax returns and related reports.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Prepares and reviews federal/state/local income tax returns, schedules, extensions and payment estimates in line with the company’s tax filing calendar
• Conducts financial and economic analyses, developing and preparing the organization’s financial plans and budgets and interpreting financial reports and tax returns
• Researches inquiries from government agencies regarding filings, compliance, and other claims
• Prepares tax calculations to support tax controversy analyses
• Conducts tax assumptions in project models
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree
• Experience: 2+ years
