Position Specific Description

FPL’s Regulatory Affairs Systems is responsible for system design, data gathering, and analysis required for rate development filings with and reporting to the Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Interns in this role have an opportunity to use technology to help solve problems related to utility pricing & cost allocations. This position will provide excellent exposure across different business units at NextEra Energy including Regulatory Accounting, Financial Forecasting, Load Forecasting, Operations and Customer Service.


Individuals in this role will gain experience implementing data/analytical solutions for electricity pricing, load analysis, cost allocations, and other practical business uses for advanced technology. The internship will also provide mentoring, practical hands-on experience in a corporate setting and exposure to leadership and culture (e.g. staff meetings, networking, and meetings with key personnel).

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

· Work with technology and business teams to develop requirements, technical designs, and architectures to solve functional problems

· Develop proof of concepts using enterprise methodology frameworks and evaluation of available technologies

· Participate in evaluation of solutions and implementation of these plans

· Documentation of implemented solutions or proof of concepts

Desired Qualifications:

· Knowledge of databases and data analytics - acquiring, manipulating, and transforming data

· Competency in SQL and Python/R

· Experience with cloud microservices (such as S3, EC2, Aurora, RedShift, Lambda)

· Understanding of Linux/Unix shell and commands

· Excellent analytical, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills

· Experience using Docker, Git, virtual environments

Job Overview

To be considered for an internship, you must be actively enrolled at a college or university as a full-time student seeking a bachelor’s degree or higher. You must also have a current cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher (on a 0.00 to 4.00 scale).

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists department with assigned projects
  • Completes challenging projects and assignments
  • Presents final project to senior leadership at the end of the internship
  • Assumes responsibility for own travel, lodging, and transportation necessary to be available for the program
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High school grad / GED
  • Maintain active enrollment in a Bachelor or higher degree program
  • Maintain cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
