Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy, Inc., a leading clean-energy company is seeking a candidate to join our team in the area of state income tax. Continued growth of our company coupled with a rapidly changing state tax landscape provide a great opportunity for a qualified candidate to join our team and play a key role in ensuring that NextEra remains on the cutting edge of state taxation. This role will support the state income tax planning and state income tax compliance functions within NextEra. 

 
Key Responsibilities include and Qualifications:

  • Prepares and reviews federal/state/local income tax returns, schedules, extensions and payment estimates in line with the company’s tax filing calendar
  • Research inquiries from government agencies regarding filings, compliance, and other claims
  • Prepares tax calculations to support tax controversy analyses
  • Prepare complex unitary and standalone tax returns
  • Prepare estimated tax payments and extensions
  • Identify and execute process improvement initiatives
  • Providing technical and analytical support for the following key areas:
    • M&A activities
    • Tax planning initiatives
    • Legislative monitoring and influencing
    • FIN48
    • State audits
  • 4+ years of corporate income tax experience
  • Working knowledge of ASC740 income tax accounting
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage technology to streamline processes and perform data analytics
  • Basic tax research skills with a high level of competency with tax research products
  • Must be able to effectively initiate, manage, and complete assigned projects
  • Solid communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Must demonstrate strong analytic and problem solving skills
  • Accustomed to working in a team environment
  • Demonstrate a high level of engagement

Job Overview

This job is responsible for moderate to complex projects associated with the maintenance of tax records and the preparation of all or specifically assigned tax returns, separate company corporate income tax and partnership tax returns, consolidated tax returns and related reports.

Job Duties & Responsibilities


•   Prepares and reviews federal/state/local income tax returns, schedules, extensions and payment estimates in line with the company’s tax filing calendar
•   Conducts financial and economic analyses, developing and preparing the organization’s financial plans and budgets and interpreting financial reports and tax returns
•   Researches inquiries from government agencies regarding filings, compliance, and other claims
•   Prepares tax calculations to support tax controversy analyses
•   Conducts tax assumptions in project models
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications


•  Bachelor's Degree
•  Experience: 2+ years

Preferred Qualifications


•  Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
•  Master's - Accounting / Finance
•  Tax Compliance
•  Tax Research
