Position Specific Description

We are seeking a Senior Tax Planning Manager to become a member of our Tax Planning team in Juno Beach, Florida.  Our in-house tax department is a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative environment.  The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting U.S. federal and state income tax audits, coordinating with subject matter experts (SMEs) to research and contemporaneously document material income tax positions, and identify, analyze and document FIN 48 positions.

 

Professional Experience
•    7+ years of experience preferred working on tax controversy at an AmLaw 100 law firm, “Big 4” public accounting firm, and/or Fortune 500 in-house corporate tax department
•    Strong foundation of income tax technical knowledge with experience evaluating and advising on tax positions
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to coordinate effectively with various SMEs and communicate tax positions to tax authorities and senior tax leadership
•    Self-motivated with excellent project management, organizational, and leadership skills
•    Ability to work with Excel and various tax software tools, including tax compliance and tax research software
•    Experience with US and state income tax appeals process and tax litigation a plus
•    Energy industry experience preferred, but not required

 

Job Responsibilities
•    Protect tax positions and value by fostering relationships with, and responding to, IRS and state tax agencies
•    Oversee and manage all aspects of federal and state income tax audits, including ensuring that all filings and responses are made in a comprehensive and timely manner
•    Review, analyze, and respond to IRS and state tax agencies Information Document Requests
•    Meet with IRS and state tax agencies on a regular basis to bring resolution to complex tax issues
•    Partner with personnel from all areas of the company to collect and analyze information necessary for tax audit defense
•    Provide regular updates to senior tax leadership regarding audit status and strategy
•    Coordinate with SMEs and conduct research on a broad range of federal and state tax matters
•    Ensure contemporaneous audit-ready documentation supporting tax return positions is developed, leveraging SME support as necessary
•    Maintain and enhance policies and procedures related to tax audits
•    Identify, maintain, and review tax accounting issues, including documenting ASC 740 (FIN 48) positions for financial statement support
•    Partner with tax compliance, tax accounting, and tax forecasting to properly account for and reflect audit adjustments and FIN 48 positions

Job Overview

This job drives value by providing support to project teams and business units throughout the organization with respect to the tax aspects of pending acquisitions, dispositions, financings, reorganizations (acquisitive and divisive), restructurings, and joint ventures, with a view to optimize taxes.

Job Duties & Responsibilities


•   Communicates complex technical tax issues to senior management and internal stakeholders
•   Negotiates and drafts tax provisions in deal documents and prepares technical tax memoranda
•   Serves as the single point of accountability for federal tax issues and identifies non-federal tax issues to be addressed by applicable subject matter expert
•   Works with various business units to promote the Company's legislative priorities and assist with communications
•   Manages and develops team members
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications


•  Member in Good Standing of State Bar
•  Juris Doctorate
•  Bachelor's Degree
•  Experience:7+ years
