Position Specific Description

The Senior Indirect Tax Analyst will perform financial and transactional analysis, support indirect tax audits, complete moderate to complex compliance filings, raise compliance issues to the Sr. Tax Manager, and participate in projects identified by the Sr. Tax Manager.  Issues identified during financial and transactional reviews will be raised to leadership with a recommended plan to remediate.  Leadership will include the Senior Indirect Tax Analyst in process improvement initiatives and will allow oversight of specific facets of each project.  The Senior Indirect Tax Analyst must be able to manipulate transactional data to determine the accuracy of tax determinations.  Use of proficiency tools, such as advanced Excel, PowerQuery, PowerBI, and Alteryx, is important for those interested in this position.

Employees in this role function as the lead analyst to the Sr. Manager, Indirect Tax.  Candidates should be proficient in many facets of indirect tax and must be willing to tackle monthly compliance activities, audit support, and process improvement initiatives.  Indirect tax responsibilities include Sales and Use Tax specifically and may include Municipal Utility, Gross Receipts, and Motor Fuel taxes.  Additionally, Franchise Fees are also managed as part of the indirect tax function.

  • Prepare monthly sales and use tax returns; may also prepare municipal utility, gross receipts, and/or motor fuel tax computations and compliance activities too
  • Prepare monthly Franchise Fee inputs and Franchise Fee projections/calculations (regulated utility activities)
  • Perform moderate to complex tax technical research of laws and regulations
  • Perform moderate to complex reverse audit reviews
  • Provide significant audit support and audit defense
  • Analyze new products for appropriate tax determinations
  • Support the issuance and collection of exemption certificates
  • Perform account reconciliations in Blackline
  • Create monthly journal entries for indirect tax activities
  • Resolve issues (workcycles) with isolated transactions that can’t be processed “as is”

Job Overview

This job is responsible for the more complex projects associated with the maintenance of tax records and the preparation of all or specifically assigned tax returns, complex separate company corporate income tax and partnership tax returns and consolidated tax returns and related reports. Employees in this role may provide functional advice or training to less-experienced tax accountants.

•   Assists in developing tax structures and strategies that defer, minimize, or eliminate foreign and U.S. taxes on existing and prospective company investments
•   Monitors all tax compliance activities and exposures, including tax return preparation and reporting, and the status of local audits and dispute resolution proceedings
•   Conducts financial and economic analyses
•   Develops and prepares the organization's financial plans and budgets, and interpreting financial reports and tax returns
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications


•  Bachelor's - Degree
•  Experience: 4+ years

Preferred Qualifications


•  Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
•  Master's - Accounting / Finance
