Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy Inc. and Florida Power and Light are seeking a senior level tax professional to join our dynamic, creative organization in Juno Beach, FL, in the area of state income tax research and planning.  Continued growth of our company coupled with a rapidly changing state tax landscape provide a great opportunity for a qualified candidate to join our team and play a key role in ensuring that NextEra remains on the cutting edge of state taxation.


You will be the primary contact for state income tax support for NextEra Energy’s Tax M&A team, reporting to the Sr. Tax Director, State Planning. You will be responsible for development and implementation of tax efficient M&A structuring initiatives. You will identify and implement value added state income tax planning opportunities in support of the day to day operations of the organization. You will also have the opportunity to participate in nationwide legislative monitoring efforts, including the identification, tracking and analysis of key state and local tax legislation. Finally, you will identify and obtain state credits and incentives and conduct other tasks such as documentation for FIN48 purposes, document and contract reviews for tax considerations and support various state and local tax audits.

 

An active CPA license or LLM degree is highly preferred.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of various worldwide tax projects, including analyzing relevant tax law for tax planning transactions;  working with foreign and domestic tax advisors to understand relevant tax rules; partnering with multiple business units to understand both domestic and foreign tax implications; and reviewing financial models to illustrate the tax consequences of various alternatives
  • Work with Governmental Affairs, Investor Relations, and Communications to promote the Company's legislative priorities and assist with communications
  • Communicate complex technical tax issues to Senior Management and internal/external stakeholders
  • Negotiate, draft and review tax provisions in deal documents
  • Prepare and review technical tax memoranda 
  • Manage and develop team members
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Juris Doctorate
  • Experience: 5+ years
  • Member in Good Standing of State Bar

Preferred Qualifications

  • LLM - Master of Laws
