Position Specific Description

Florida Power & Light Company is seeking a Senior Labor Attorney to join the employment, benefits, labor and immigration team at our Juno Beach headquarters. The ideal candidate will have at least 9 years of experience in management-side labor law and will enjoy working in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. This position will advise on labor matters across the corporate enterprise, including matters outside Florida.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Serve as primary legal advisor on all aspects of labor and union-related matters across the United States and Canada (coordinating with Canadian counsel as needed), including collective bargaining, disciplinary actions, grievances, union representation campaigns, labor disputes, labor strategy and unfair labor practice matters
  • Develop and advise on proactive labor strategies, including union awareness and risk assessments
  • Represent the company as first chair in labor arbitrations and proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board
  • Support collective bargaining negotiations
  • Manage union campaigns and representation matters from strategy through execution
  • Review and advise on collective bargaining agreement provisions and company policies applicable to various bargaining units
  • Review and advise on policies and practices to ensure compliance with laws and regulations
  • Advise on labor strategy and prevailing wage laws in connection with construction projects
  • Provide training on labor law issues to business unit leaders
  • Travel within and outside Florida (10-25%)

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • JD from an accredited school with exceptional academic credentials
  • Minimum of 9 years of experience practicing management-side labor law at a national law firm or as in house counsel; experience with utilities or in the energy industry is a plus
  • Member in good standing of a state bar and ability to be certified as Florida authorized in house counsel
  • Experience leading labor strategy and negotiations
  • The ability to think strategically and evaluate potential risks, including economic, legal and reputational
  • The ability to communicate effectively with employees across the enterprise, including senior leaders
  • The ability self-motivate, to work with minimal supervision, and assume significant responsibility
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Willingness to partner with cross-functional teams and legal practitioners in other areas

Required Qualifications


•  Member in Good Standing of State Bar
•  High School Grad / GED
•  Juris Doctorate
•  Bachelor's Degree
•  Experience:5+ years
