Position Specific Description
This position is responsible for providing structural/geotechnical input & best-practices guidance for business initiatives within NextEra Energy (NEE), from idea conception through project COD. Become a collaborative member of the Engineering & Construction (E&C) Civil Subject Matter Expert (SME) Team, which consists of engineers skilled in structural, geotechnical, site development, stormwater, sediment & erosion control, and risk management.
Key accountabilities of a Civil/Structural SME include, but are not limited to:
• Provide responsive engineering support for wind, solar, energy storage, clean fuels, substation, and transmission projects within the Engineering & Construction Business Unit.
• Maintain best practices and sponsor technical lunch & learn sessions on civil/structural topics.
• Participate in design and constructability reviews, providing timely feedback to prevent schedule delays.
• Drive resolution of critical project issues to protect budget and schedule.
• Ensure recommendations satisfy third-party obligations and support project financing efforts with Independent Engineers and Lenders.
• Help to define project requirements, scope, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Secure engineering consulting expertise as needed to supplement or validate technical opinions.
• Conduct emerging technology due diligence and support equipment technical evaluations.
• Review manufacturing Non-Conformance Reports and perform annual specification reviews incorporating lessons learned.
• Provide supplier performance feedback for annual evaluations.
Travel within North America; 10-20% of time.
Desired Qualifications
• B.S. or M.S. in Civil/Structural Engineering; P.E. license preferred (or ability to obtain within one year).
• 5+ years of structural engineering experience in wind, solar, or BESS projects.
• Ability to independently review and redline structural design submittals for foundations, steel, and concrete.
• Proficient in national codes (IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC) and renewable energy industry standards.
• Skilled in reviewing structural analysis models and construction drawings for design adequacy and constructability.
• Experience with deliverables management platforms such as Unifier, Bluebeam, and SharePoint.
• Proven ability to lead vendor coordination and guide third-party engineering firms with minimal oversight.
• Excellent communication skills for reporting technical assessments to project managers and SMEs.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
• Understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and construction materials is a plus.

Required Qualifications
- Valid Driver's License (NON CDL)
- Bachelor's - Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program
- Experience: 5+ years post-Bachelor’s degree in engineering

- Certified Professional Engineer (PE)
- Six Sigma Black Belt Certified
- Six Sigma Green Belt Certified
- Master's Degree
- Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certified
