NextEra Analytics is seeking a motivated and technically skilled Software Engineering Intern to join our Field Operations team. In this role, you will support both internal and external software and hardware implementations that drive profitability across our NextEra Analytics SaaS offerings. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, test, validate, and enhance our data collection and control systems, directly influencing the roadmap of our digital energy solutions.

Job Description

As a Software Engineering Intern, you will contribute to the development and integration of systems that ensure high-quality data collection and performance for NextEra and its clients. You’ll apply problem-solving skills, technical expertise, and clear communication to resolve customer and system challenges while gaining exposure to a range of technologies that support energy management and analytics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design, testing, and implementation of software and hardware systems for internal and customer-facing applications.
  • Collaborate with engineering and analytics teams to enhance system reliability and data quality.
  • Learn and apply cybersecurity best practices to minimize risk in connected systems.
  • Participate in system validation, documentation, and integration activities for new hardware and software components.
  • Work with vendors and internal partners to troubleshoot issues and identify new technologies that enhance performance and efficiency.
  • Support proposals and technical evaluations to help ensure that SaaS solutions meet financial and operational goals.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining clear communication and documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • High school grad / GED
  • Maintain cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Working toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • General knowledge of computer science principles, including software design, data structures, and version control.
  • Familiarity with hardware design, system integration, or embedded systems is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a collaborative mindset.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience coding in one or more languages (e.g., Python, C/C++, Java, or MATLAB).
  • Strong financial acumen and understanding of how technology supports business profitability.
  • Interest in renewable energy, sustainability, or data-driven optimization.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to field sites for hands-on implementation experience

Job Overview

To be considered for an internship, you must be actively enrolled at a college or university as a full-time student seeking a bachelor’s degree or higher. You must also have a current cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher (on a 0.00 to 4.00 scale).

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists department with assigned projects
  • Completes challenging projects and assignments
  • Presents final project to senior leadership at the end of the internship
  • Assumes responsibility for own travel, lodging, and transportation necessary to be available for the program
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
