Position Specific Description

The Severance Tax Manager will perform severance and motor fuel tax research, prepare severance and motor fuel tax returns, support tax audits, raise compliance issues to the Sr Manager of Indirect Tax, and participate in projects identified by Indirect Tax leadership.  This role will be involved in process improvement initiatives and tax transformation efforts and will allow oversight of specific facets of each project.  The Severance Tax Manager must be able to manipulate transactional data.  Use of proficiency tools, such as advanced Excel, BW, and Alteryx, is important for those interested in this position.  Candidates should be proficient in many facets of severance and motor fuel taxes and must be willing to perform research, monthly compliance activities, audit support, and support process improvement initiatives. 

 

Key Responsibilities and Experience

  • Prepare monthly severance and motor fuel tax returns; may also prepare sales tax returns
  • Perform tax technical research
  • Provide audit support and audit defense
  • Provide tax guidance to business development team
  • Identify severance tax incentives and deductions
  • Facilitate the renewal of bonds and registrations
  • Experience filing severance tax returns
  • Good understanding of oil and gas field operations and revenue process
  • Research experience
  • Sales and use tax experience in the oil and gas industry
  • This role can sit in Juno Beach, FL or Houston, TX

Job Overview

This position is responsible for managing and directing all activities regarding the organization’s tax policy including forecasting and analysis, planning and tax research.

Required Qualifications


•  Bachelor's Degree
•  Experience: 8+ years

Preferred Qualifications


•  Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
•  Master's - Accounting / Finance
•  LLM - Master of Laws
