Position Specific Description

The position calls for a candidate that can act as the team’s specialist for all matters related to retail energy, utility tariffs and market incentives. This entails analyzing, modeling and translating market rates, program rules and risk profiles that are critical to how we structure investments and customer proposals. The candidate will be engaged in customer interactions, negotiations, and solutions-forming regularly and is expected to demonstrate creative thinking. The specialist would be instrumental in advising our tactical activities as well as our company’s strategy.

 

This position will be part of the Business Development team and will frequently interact with other peers, and subject matter experts, to develop products and solutions that leverage NextEra’s core competencies and enable the deployment of renewable power, reliability systems, energy storage and green hydrogen applications. The candidate will also need to be able to work independently, proactively, and resourcefully to navigate the organization and get things done. The candidate is expected to build credibility with peers of all levels and deliver their message in a distilled and coherent manner.

 

Successful candidate will be entrepreneurial and commercially savvy: be able to think like a business owner and stay focused on what will drive the optimal solution while improving margins in a competitive marketplace without compromising customer satisfaction or NextEra standards. Candidate is expected to be resourceful and have the tenacity and communication skills to marshal internal support to deliver and improve products offerings that may not fit our traditional business. Must be organized and methodical in information gathering and analytics, critical path thinker and a collaborator, an active listener and an excellent communicator who can understand their audience, ask great questions and simplify complex issues into compelling value propositions for peers, management and customers.

 

About: Business Development Team

The Business Development team is responsible for identifying and commercializing new products and services with a time horizon of 3-10 years. Team members are involved at various stages of building and integrating a new business - from early planning and customer engagements to project commercialization and corporate strategy. This is akin to a startup within a large-cap.

 

Each product group has P&L objectives that are shared with the origination and development peers, working together to get new products to market. From time to time, team members are also engaged in the evaluation of M&A opportunities.

 

The product group for this position entails development of green hydrogen and resiliency solutions. ‘Green Hydrogen Solutions’ reduce the carbon intensity of a customer’s fuel, feedstock or energy consumption by means of producing, delivering and consuming hydrogen that was generated by low/zero-carbon resources such as renewable energy. ‘Resiliency Solutions’ enhance the reliability of the customer’s infrastructure by means of deploying capital energy resources and demand side management.

Job Overview

Employees in this role develop and execute plans for new and enhanced generation projects. This job is responsible for resource allocation, schedules, cost and technical adequacy, ensuring the project or transaction is completed in the most cost effective and competitive manner. This position manages all aspects of the business deal and ensures the project is completed on time and within budgetary constraints.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages all aspects of the day to day transaction process to ensure timely completion as well as a cost effective and competitive result
  • Leads and coordinates key functions such as financial feasibility analyses, engineering/design, project legal review, permitting activities and financial negotiations
  • Responsible for managing multiple and complex projects 
  • Coordinates due diligence activities with other internal groups to ensure proper analysis and structuring of assigned projects
  • Acts as liaison between internal and external specialists regarding procurement, contracting, permitting and interconnection
  • Constructs contractual arrangements for project development
  • Negotiates agreements with consultants and subcontractors
  • Ensures compliance with applicable technical and regulatory requirements
  • Fosters external relationships with customers, third parties and members of the community
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience
