Position Specific Description

This position is within the Corporate Environmental Services Department of NextEra Energy (NEE), supporting the NextEra Energy Corporate Environmental Audit Program. The Audit Program evaluates environmental compliance of operational facilities owned by Florida Power and Light Company (FPL), NextEra Energy Resources (NEER), and other affiliates of NEE. 

 

The applicant must have the ability to provide senior level environmental staff support for auditing operational facilities in power generation (fossil, wind, and solar), oil and gas infrastructure, electric transmission and distribution, energy storage facilities, and other corporate work locations. Primary responsibilities include independent onsite and remote audits of facilities throughout North America to ensure operational compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental requirements. Subject matters reviewed may include, but are not limited to, waste management, hazardous materials management, air, water, wildlife, oil spill prevention, and other environmental matters.

 

The applicant must have the ability to plan, support, and conduct independent environmental audits including preparation of final audit reports for distribution to executive management. Additionally, the applicant shall ensure all corrective actions are tracked, addressed, and closed out within a reasonable period of time.

 

The applicant must maintain current knowledge of pertinent national, state, regional, and local level environmental policies and regulations, have the ability to effectively interface with internal and external customers, upper management, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders, and be able to assist in resolving complex environmental matters. The applicant must help ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, as well as company policies and environmental management systems.

 

The job location is in Juno Beach, Florida.  Frequent travel, with overnight stays, will be required

 

Other Qualifications:
•    Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Environmental Science or Engineering), Master’s preferred 
•    Minimum of five years of directly relevant experience 
•    Advanced knowledge of environmental regulations 
•    Experience with compliance related software and/or data tracking systems
•    Advanced oral and written communication skills as well as analysis, problem solving, compliance, leadership, and process/project management skills
•    Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
•    Environmental Auditor Certification (CPEA, BEAC, or equivalent auditing certification)
•    Expertise in at least one environmental subject matter

Job Overview

Employees in this job are responsible for providing expert environmental support for new and existing facilities including due diligence, permitting, regulatory compliance, regulatory interpretation and development, and interface with Federal, State, and Regional agencies.

•   Provides the necessary support to staff to resolve environmental matters
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned
